Description of the rose “Graham Thomas”
Planting and caring for the Graham Thomas rose
This variety of roses thrives in well-lit places at a distance of at least 1,5 m from trees and shrubs. In this case, the plant will not have to fight for food and a place in the sun, and the bush will be neat and compact. The rose also grows in partial shade, but it should receive its 6 hours of sun. If the plant does not have enough light, it stretches, its flowers become small and not so intense in color.
This English beauty loves slightly acidic, light, permeable soils. Grows well on loam. Before planting, it is recommended to hold the seedlings in water or a solution with the addition of growth stimulants for up to a day. Then the roots are trimmed and dipped in a clay mash.
Bushes are planted in pits 50 × 50 × 50 cm and the same distance between seedlings. Pour 8-10 liters of water into the hole. A self-rooted rose is planted with a clod of earth and covered with a substrate. In a grafted seedling, the grafting site is deepened by 3-6 cm. This is done so that it does not dry out. A substrate for roses is added to the pit: sand, humus, fertile soil (1: 5: 1). The soil is carefully distributed so that there is no air left at the roots. Pour the remaining mixture and tamp. The seedling is watered.
Next, you need a standard care procedure:
- Top dressing with special fertilizers for roses. In August, they are fed with potassium, which will increase frost resistance.
- Watering – about once a week, a little more often in the heat.
- Removal of fallen leaves – for the prevention of diseases, pruning withered flowers.
- Formative and stimulating pruning. Small – in spring, more solid – in autumn.
- Shelter a bush for the winter.
These activities will allow you to enjoy the bright beauty of the English beauty until the very frost.
The space-filling ability of this rose has been successfully used in mixborders, living fences, along garden paths and at terraces.
