Description of Rose Summer Song
Rose “Summer” blooms from early spring to late autumn almost without interruption. It is resistant to diseases and pests, it tolerates any vagaries of the weather well. Let’s find out about this variety in more detail.
Description and history of the “Summer Song” rose
The variety was bred by the English breeder David Austin in 2007. The name of the variety translates as “Song of the Summer”. The breeder calls the flowers honey-orange, a rare occurrence among roses. The opened buds resemble a tree-like peony flower from the paintings of oriental masters.
The bushes of an adult plant reach 2 m, the shoots are erect and completely covered with large flowers. The leaves are dark green, dense. The rose lends itself well to shaping, tolerates frost and bad weather.
Inflorescences are of the densely double type. The aroma of this rose is subtle, depending on the weather conditions. At some point, it looks like a chrysanthemum, a ripe banana, or tea. The color of the petals does not change in the sun or rain. Flowering begins in May and lasts until November with virtually no interruptions.
Rose “Summer Song” is considered exclusive, the seedlings are imported all over the world only from the English nursery.
Conditions for planting a rose “Summer”
The shrub prefers open sunny areas so that there are no other large plants within a radius of 1-2 m. The soil for planting is prepared in advance:
- dig up;
- apply mineral fertilizers;
- add compost.
Plants prefer loose, moisture-consuming soil that doesn’t dry out too quickly. On heavy and dense lands, roses refuse to bloom.
During planting, the plant is buried 8 cm, the soil is compacted and watered abundantly. Additional dressing is applied every 3 months, mineral fertilizers are used. Roses respond well to foliar feeding, which is best done in the spring, before flowering. At the beginning of the growing season, use fertilizers with a high nitrogen content.
Water the shrub as needed, in hot weather every 4 days. Roses love moisture, but over-watering harms the root system. If there is enough natural moisture, then you can additionally moisten the earth once a week.
Rose D. Austin is in harmony with yellow, white or apricot flowers. Looks good in group plantings and separately
