Clematis Stasik belongs to the large-flowered varieties of clematis. Its main purpose is decorative. Mostly plants of this type are used for braiding various surfaces or structures. Clematis is considered one of the most unpretentious plants that can be grown in central Our Country. Next, a description of clematis Stasik will be considered and his photos will be given.
Description of the variety of clematis Stasik
Clematis hybrid Stasik is a classic shrub vine with curly stems about 4 m long. Like most shrub vines, Stasik clings to obstacles and supports with the help of leaf petioles.
The plant is able to braid obstacles up to 2 m in height. The stems of the vines are thin and very strong. They are brown. The leaves are simple, which is common for the Buttercup family. Occasionally there are triplets, but this is most likely the result of chance, depending on environmental conditions, rather than some kind of hereditary trait.
The flowers of the plant are quite large, their diameter is from 10 to 12 cm, which immediately catches the eye, given the very thin stems. The flowers open very widely, with the sepals partially overlapping each other, which further enhances their showiness and impression. It seems that almost the entire surface of the climbing shrub is covered with flowers.
The flowers are stellate in shape and have six sepals. Sepals oval-elongated, slightly pointed at the ends. The sepals are velvety to the touch.
The color of the flowers is cherry at the beginning, later it becomes lighter, turning into purple-red. On the underside of the flower, clear white stripes are visible in the center.
The anthers of clematis flowers are dark, with a purple hue.
Flowering time is at the beginning of July.
There are several classifications of clematis. According to the standard biological classification, Stasik belongs to the Lyutikov family. In addition, among gardeners there are also other ways of classifying, based on the methods of growing these flowers. According to such an “intraspecific” classification, the Stasik variety belongs to late-flowering large-flowered varieties or to the flowers of the Zhakman group.
The author of the variety is Maria Sharonova, a famous botanist and florist. The variety was bred in 1972 by cross-crossing the Ernest Mahram variety with other large-flowered varieties. The name comes from the name “Stanislav”, that was the name of the grandson of M. Sharonova.
Clematis pruning group Stasik
All varieties and types of clematis, depending on the characteristics of the formation of generative buds of shoots of this or previous seasons, are also classified into pruning groups.
Clematis Stasik belongs to the third pruning group, which is conventionally considered “strong”. It includes the most densely branching clematis, as well as those in which flowering occurs quite late. This type involves pruning shoots above the second or third pair of buds, which approximately corresponds to a height of 0,2-0,5 m above the soil level.
Such pruning is used for almost all types of clematis that bloom in summer (which include Stasik). The main purpose of such pruning is to limit their growth.
In addition, all dead shoots are cut off in the immediate vicinity of the plant root, as well as shoots at a height of 5-10 cm.
Optimal growing conditions
Clematis Stasik needs moderate lighting. Although this is a light-loving plant, there should not be too much Sun in its life. In temperate and northern latitudes, it is recommended to plant it on the sunny side, but in the southern regions it is best suited for partial shade.
The plant does not like drafts and open spaces. Moreover, this factor plays a much more important role in winter than in summer. Snow blown by the wind from a plant can expose generative buds, they can freeze, and clematis will not bloom next year.
Soil for clematis Stasik should be nutritious and relatively light, with good aeration. The use of heavy clays or loams is highly undesirable. The acidity of the soil is from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline (pH from 6 to 8).
The plant does not like excess moisture, so it is not worth planting it in the lowlands. In addition, it is desirable that the groundwater level at the clematis planting site be no higher than 1,2 m. If it is problematic to find such a site, care should be taken to drain the clematis planting site.
If it is necessary to “cover” some fairly large area with a carpet of vines, it is best to plant the plants in a straight line with a distance of at least 70 cm from each other.
When “covering” the walls of buildings, plants should be planted no closer than 60-70 cm from them. The support in this case can be located directly on the wall.
Clematis is a hardy plant. According to the variety, it can endure wintering in frost resistance zones from the 9th to the 4th (that is, from -7 ° C to – 35 ° C). Such a wide range of temperatures is most likely due to a different approach to preparing the plant for winter. Be that as it may, the plant can be grown even in some northern regions of the middle lane.
Planting and caring for clematis Stasik
Planting Stasik is carried out in the off-season – in spring or autumn.
Spring planting is done in late March or early April. In this case, the kidneys should not bloom. In addition, clematis bloom is not recommended in the year of transplantation. In order to prevent it, the emerging buds are cut off from the plant.
Autumn planting is done at the end of August or in September. It must be done before the first serious cold snap, so that the seedlings have time to take root, and in the spring the development of the root system begins. If rooting does not occur, then the gardener will lose a whole year, and flowering can only occur 1,5 years after planting. Therefore, it is recommended not to delay the planting dates in the fall.
Selection and preparation of the landing site
The preparation of the landing site consists in the preliminary application of fertilizers. It is carried out 2-3 months before disembarkation. In the case of spring planting, fertilizer is applied before winter. Humus should be used as a fertilizer. No additional preparation is required.
Seedling preparation
For planting, it is recommended to use one- or two-year-old seedlings. Seedlings should first be carefully inspected and sorted according to the following parameters:
- they must have at least three roots with a length of 10 cm;
- seedlings must have at least 2 strong stems;
- on each stem – at least two unblown buds (in spring) or three developed buds (in autumn).
The roots of the seedlings are dried before planting, and then they are placed in a bucket of warm water for 6-8 hours. A few ml of rooting agents are added to the water (Kornevin, Epin, etc.). In the case of small seedlings, growth stimulants can be added. Immediately before planting, the root system should be treated with a 0,2% solution of potassium permanganate.
Rules of landing
A hole is dug under clematis in the form of a cube with an edge of 60 cm. If there are several plants, then a trench of the required length with a section of 60×60 cm is dug. cm.
Next, the pit is half filled with soil mixture.
If the soil is loam, then this mixture consists of the following parts, taken in equal proportions:
- loamy soil;
- sand;
- humus.
If the soil is sandy, then the composition will be as follows:
- the soil;
- peat;
- humus;
- sand.
Components are taken in equal proportions.
The soil is preliminarily mineralized with 1 liter of wood ash and 100 g of slaked lime per plant.
Further, a mound is made in the center, on which a seedling is placed, the roots of which are straightened. The height of the mound should be such that it does not reach the top layer of soil 5-10 cm for small seedlings and 10-15 cm for large ones.
After that, the pit is filled up, the soil is leveled and lightly tamped. A support is immediately installed next to the plant.
Watering and top dressing
The first watering is done immediately after planting. Further watering is done every 2-3 days in hot weather and every 3-5 days in cool weather. Clematis should be watered carefully, pouring water under the root. Irrigation rates depend on the composition of the soil, after watering the soil should be slightly moist. Important! Watering is best done in the evening.
Clematis Stasik is fed 4 times per season. At the same time, organic and mineral fertilizers alternate. The first dressing is done in early spring. The second – during the formation of buds. The third – immediately after flowering. The fourth – in early or mid-September.
Mulching and loosening
So that the roots of the plant do not overheat, as well as to control weeds, it is necessary immediately after planting (or in early spring for an adult plant) to mulch the soil within a radius of 30-50 cm around it.
Straw, bark, sawdust or mowed grass are used as mulch. On poor soils, mulching with peat is recommended.
Trimming
Stasik belongs to the third trimming group, so it must be trimmed quite intensively. In autumn, faded stems are cut off and the first 30 cm of the strongest shoots are left on the plant.
In order for the plant to branch more strongly, it is recommended to pinch the shoots at the beginning of the year. In the first year, this is done immediately after planting and in early summer.
In order to speed up the onset of flowering, when pruning the shoots, their length is not 30, but 50 cm.
Preparation for winter
For the winter, it is recommended to insulate clematis with sawdust, dry foliage or humus. Sometimes you can use spruce branches or straw. The height of the protective layer is not less than 30 cm. In the spring, in order to avoid the overheating of the plant, the shelter should be removed at the end of February.
Reproduction
The following methods of reproduction of clematis Stasik are mainly used:
- Division of the bush. To do this, divide the bush with a shovel, transferring the plant with part of the root system with an earthen clod to a new place. Despite such a “barbaric” method of transplantation, the plant adapts perfectly to the new place and quickly begins to bloom.
- Reproduction by layering. In the spring, side layers are pressed to the ground with staples. The main thing is that there should be at least one kidney on the continuation of the stem after the bracket. It is sprinkled with earth and the next year, when a new stem grows, it is cut off from the mother plant. Then it, together with a clod of earth and its own root system, is transferred to a new place.
Since Stasik belongs to large-flowered clematis, seed propagation is not used for him.
Diseases and pests
The main diseases characteristic of clematis are fungal diseases (powdery mildew, gray rot, etc.). The methods of their treatment and prevention are standard: treatment with copper-containing preparations once a week until the symptoms disappear.
Conclusion
Clematis Stasik is one of the most popular ornamental plants used for braiding large surfaces and large objects. Caring for him is not complicated and is accessible even to novice gardeners. The plant feels great in the conditions of the middle lane, it can be grown even in climates with frosts down to -35 ° C.
