Dermovate ointment, cream and lotion contain clobetasol, a substance from the group of corticosteroids (hormones produced by the cortex of the adrenal glands). Clobetasol has a very strong anti-inflammatory effect. The drug is intended for topical application to the skin.
Dermovate – indications
Dermovate ointment and cream are intended for the short-term treatment of drug-resistant skin diseases such as psoriasis (except in forms that affect large areas of the body), lupus erythematosus (cutaneous form), lichen planus, recurrent eczema and other conditions when the treatment is used the weaker corticosteroid preparations had failed.
The liquid is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the scalp, such as psoriasis and forms of eczema that are difficult to treat, when the treatment with weaker corticosteroid preparations has failed.
Dermovate – dosage
The drug is intended for external use. Both the ointment and the cream are rubbed lightly in small amounts on the affected areas. The liquid is applied in a small amount to the affected scalp, twice a day (morning and evening), until you feel better. Thereafter, for maintenance therapy, the solution may be used once daily or less frequently. The fluid is not used under the pressure dressing. Regardless of the form of the drug, it should be used with caution in children under 2 years of age and the elderly. The dose and frequency of intake is determined by the doctor.
Dermovate – side effects
Dermovate used for a long time and in high doses and on large areas of the body may lead to the appearance of excess cortisol in the body. Local atrophic changes in the skin may occur, including stretch marks, application site discoloration, spider veins, dilation of surface blood vessels and hirsutism. In addition, the drug may cause growth retardation in children.
When used as recommended, Dermovate does not affect psychomotor performance, the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery. The risk of serious side effects increases with the longer use of the drug. If the side effects are very troublesome, consult a doctor.
Dermovate – contraindications
The drug should not be used by people who are hypersensitive to clobetasol or any of the excipients. It should not be used in skin diseases for which it is not intended to be treated (e.g. acne vulgaris, rosacea, mycosis or itchy rash unrelated to inflammation). Dermovate can make these conditions worse.
Dermovate – warnings
Use very carefully on the skin of the face, on the eyelids or on the skin around the eyelids in people with glaucoma and in people with cataracts. Apply with caution to the already existing atrophy of subcutaneous tissue, especially in the elderly. Long-term use of the drug should be avoided, especially in children, as systemic side effects characteristic of corticosteroids, adrenal suppression and symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome may occur.
Dermovate may react with medicines such as:
- rytonawir,

Pregnant or breastfeeding women may use the drug only after consulting a doctor.
