Depralin

Cipralex is a medicine in which the active ingredient is escitalopram.

The active substance in Escitalopram

Escitalopram is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which in turn is one of the neurotransmitters, a substance that plays an important role in communication between neurons. The task of escitalopram is to inhibit the serotonin reuptake process, i.e. extend the time of serotonin action.

Taking and dosage of Cipralex

The drug is in the form of tablets for oral use.

It is usually used for long-term episodes of depression, anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorders. The recommended dose is 10 mg a day, but your doctor may increase it to 20 mg a day if necessary.

In the case of social phobias, the dose is 10 mg per day, but after a few weeks of treatment, the doctor may reduce it to 5 mg per day or, on the contrary, increase it to 20 mg. The preparation is usually used for 12 weeks. However, it is important to note that social phobia must be accurately diagnosed as it can be easily confused with shyness. The preparation is used only when the patient’s condition clearly interferes with the performance of professional work or hinders social contacts.

In the elderly, the dose is always reduced to 5 mg a day at the beginning, then it can be increased to a maximum of 10 mg a day.

Depralin is best taken in the morning with breakfast. Wash it down with a sufficient amount of liquid. It is best not to chew the tablets.
