Deodorants for women

No matter how many favorites we have among beauty products, there is one tool that you can’t do without. It’s a deodorant. We’ll talk about him.

The main functions of deodorants

Imagine, even in the papyri of the III millennium BC, remedies against the smell of sweat were mentioned. These were bags with fragrant herbs, which were fixed under the clothes in the armpits. Since then, the functionality of such products has expanded significantly and is not limited to masking an unpleasant odor.

Modern deodorants successfully fight odor-causing bacteria and regulate excess sweating.

Types of deodorants

Different types of deodorants perform different functions.

Perfumed

Like their prototypes from antiquity, they only mask the smell of sweat and act for a rather short time due to the absence of disinfectant bactericidal additives in the composition.

Actually deodorants

They contain bactericidal components that destroy microorganisms responsible for an unpleasant odor. Active ingredients:

  • triclosan,
  • chlorhexidine,
  • terpefarnesol,
  • glyceryl monolaurate.

Some of them prevent bacteria from multiplying, while others destroy them. Do not affect the process of sweating.

Antiperspirants

They close the excretory ducts of the sweat glands, controlling the process of sweating. In the composition – organic salts of aluminum or zinc.

Deodorants-antiperspirants

Their formulas are based on both bactericidal and sweat-reducing substances.

Powder

These include talcum powder, perfumed powder, and other powder-textured products. Initially, their task is to absorb sweat, so such products are applied to dry skin after a shower. But if talc or powder contains antibacterial substances or aluminum salts, they can be considered a deodorant or antiperspirant. Most modern products combine several functions at once.

How to choose a deodorant for women

First of all, these characteristics are important.

Efficiency

The best indicators are in antiperspirant deodorants. The most modest – in perfumed and powder. True, the first is important to apply correctly: apply after a shower before going to bed and wash off in the morning. During the night (during the least intense sweating), the active substances will penetrate deeper into the sweat ducts, which will increase the effectiveness of the antiperspirant.

Duration of action

In short, the “working day” of perfumed deodorants. The longest (24-48 hours) – in antiperspirant deodorants. Some products are used only once a week.

Ease of use

It is important that the product is easy to apply without getting your hands dirty. Also properties with a plus sign include:

  • quick drying;
  • lack of stickiness and film feeling after application;
  • the absence of white marks on clothes (they will not be if there are no zirconium and aluminum salts in the formula).

Pleasant aroma

It can be very intense or absent altogether. But most deodorants have a gentle, unobtrusive smell.

Security

The safety of the tool is determined by:

  • restrictions on the possible amount of bactericidal and sweat-reducing components;
  • no dangerous preservatives;
  • fragrance quality.

If you are prone to allergic reactions or your armpits are sensitive, choose deodorants from drugstore brands.

Comfort

Nowadays, deodorants are increasingly including substances that soothe the skin:

  • amino acids;

  • extracts of aloe, cotton, linden;

  • allantoin;

  • avocado oil;

  • vitamin E.

Marketing research shows that consumer dissatisfaction is more often associated with the aesthetic flaws of the product than the side effects caused by it.
