Demodicosis (also called demodicosis) is caused by the demodicosis parasite – a small arachnid that feeds in the hair bags and sebaceous glands, feeding on the lipids and sebum of the skin. The greatest concentration of Demodex mites can be found around the nose, around the eyes, on the forehead, chin and in the nasolabial furrow. They can also be found on other parts of the body, for example on the hands or feet, on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, and also in the intimate areas.

Demodicosis – symptoms of infection

In a significant number of people demodicosis it is asymptomatic. In some infected individuals, various skin symptoms can be observed, such as:

  1. reddening,
  2. peeling,
  3. eczema,
  4. itching
  5. papules and pimples that look like acne.

These parasites can also contribute to the development of blackheads and blackheads. They can also accompany acne vulgaris and rosacea, inflammation of the corners of the mouth or seborrheic dermatitis, usually exacerbating the symptoms of these diseases.

  6. hypersensitivity to light, dust or smoke,
  7. bacterial superinfection manifested by barley, chalazion.
