Delicol is a dietary supplement used to relieve colic caused by lactose intolerance. It is recommended for both artificial and natural feeding. Delicol contains an enzyme that allows the digestion of lactose. Thanks to this, it not only alleviates the symptoms of colic, but also prevents the occurrence of ailments.

Delicol is a dietary preparation for special medical purposes, which contains an enzyme responsible for digesting sugar from milk, i.e. lactose.

This enzyme is lactase and is produced in the brush border of the epithelium of the small intestine. It is responsible for digesting simple sugars, i.e. glucose and galactose. These sugars are easily absorbed by the body.

Lactose, on the other hand, is a disaccharide found in milk and other milk-based products. In order for lactose to be digested, an adequate amount of lactase is necessary. If this enzyme is missing, symptoms of lactose intolerance appear. These are i.a. diarrhea, too much gas from the intestine, abdominal cramps and pains, gas and, in the case of babies, colic.

Delicol, thanks to the content of lactase, prevents the appearance of these symptoms and enables the digestion of milk and dairy products. In 100 ml Delicolu contains 1,57 g of lactase.

Delicol should be used in infants who develop symptoms of lactose intolerance after eating milk and dairy products.

Although there are indications for the administration of Delicol this cannot always be done. It should be remembered that the contraindication to the administration of Delicol is hypersensitivity, i.e. allergy to any of the ingredients of the preparation.

Delicol – precautions

Before administering Delicol, it should be remembered that some diseases or other health conditions are a contraindication to the administration of Delicol, or require dose modification. It also happens that additional tests may be necessary.

When using Delicol, remember that:

1. do not exceed the daily dose of Delicol indicated on the package;
2. administration of a higher dose of Delicol than recommended by the manufacturer of the drug may cause diarrhea;
3. Delicol should be given to a child up to 3-4 months of age, after which it should be gradually discontinued;
4. Delicol drops are added to the milk at room temperatureas higher temperatures can reduce the activity of the lactase enzyme;
5. Delicol should be used in consultation with a doctor and according to his recommendations;
6. any disturbing symptoms in a child should be consulted with a doctor;
7. Delicol is not a substitute for a varied diet.

Delicol – dosage

Delicol is in the form of drops for oral administration. It should be used according to the recommendations and, importantly, not exceed the recommended doses. It does not affect the effectiveness of the preparation and may be harmful to your health. You should clarify any doubts with your doctor.

How to use Delicol? The Delicol leaflet informs about it in detail. In the event that the baby is breastfed, the amount of the drug is calculated based on the weight of the baby. When a baby is bottle-fed, the amount of food consumed determines the amount of Delicol.

Use of Delicol should start with 7 dropsthen gradually increase to 17 drops. The doctor may also decide on the dosage.

Delicol should be administered before each meal by adding drops to a small amount of milk (mother’s milk must be given on a teaspoon). Delicol must not be mixed with hot food, because then the lactase is destroyed.

Depending on the age of the child, the manufacturer offers the following dosage:

1. up to 2 weeks of a child’s life – 7-8 drops per meal;
2. 3-4 weeks of a child’s life – 8-9 drops per meal;
3. 1-2 months of a child’s life – 9-11 drops per meal;
4. 2-3 months of a child’s life – 11-14 drops per meal;
5. 3-4 months of a child’s life – 12-14 drops per meal;
6. over 4 months of age – 14-17 drops per meal.

After opening, remember to throw away Delicol after 3 weeks, even if it is not used.
