Delayed motherhood: what is it and who needs it
Statistics say that Russian women give birth to their first child later and later. However, this trend coincides with the global one.
“In recent years, the age of women who planned pregnancy for the first time has increased significantly. Young mothers over 35 are no longer perceived as an exception to the rule. This trend is due to a number of reasons. The social role of women has changed. Now, in the overwhelming majority of cases, both spouses want to get a decent education and make a career. These plans, as a rule, can be realized closer to 40. It is then that a modern woman usually realizes that she is morally and financially ready for the birth of a child. “
However, the social factor does not negate biology – over the years, the reproductive function decreases. After 35, the number of eggs begins to decline sharply, and their quality deteriorates greatly. What is it fraught with? At firstsince there are few oocytes left, the chances of pregnancy are reduced. Secondly, the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the unborn child increases significantly. A baby with Down syndrome is especially likely to be born.
So does a woman really have to sacrifice something, choosing between a profession and motherhood? Fortunately, experts have found a solution to this problem.
Postpound on later
The essence of the delayed motherhood program is that specialists cryopreserve a woman’s oocytes at an age when there are a lot of cells, and their quality has not yet deteriorated. Years later, they can be thawed and used in the IVF cycle – conceiving naturally, of course, with the help of stored eggs, it will not work.
In addition, the woman also has the opportunity to freeze the embryos obtained as a result of in vitro fertilization.
However, their use requires the consent of the husband, and this can become a problem in the event of a divorce or his unwillingness to have children.
A woman can dispose of her own eggs at her own discretion, so this option is preferable.
Who needs it
It is worth considering the prospect of freezing eggs if you are not yet 35 years old, you are not yet ready for the birth of a baby, but you plan to become a mother in the future.
For those who have already crossed the 35-year mark, this program will not work. After 37, doctors strongly recommend not to cryopreserve oocytes, but to plan a pregnancy as soon as possible. The fact is that at this age the supply of eggs is greatly reduced, and their condition is often too poor.
How does it work
First, doctors stimulate the ovaries in order to achieve maturation of not one, but several oocytes at once. Then, a follicle puncture is done, during which specialists receive eggs. To freeze them, a modern vitrification method is used, which excludes damage to cellular structures. Each tube containing genetic material is carefully labeled.
At the final stage, cryovials are placed in Dewars, where they will be stored at ultra-low temperatures. When the woman decides to become a mother, the eggs will be thawed and used in the IVF program.
Are there any risks?
The program is completely safe. Short-term use of hormonal drugs, which are necessary at the stage of stimulation, cannot negatively affect the ovarian reserve of the ovaries. The stimulation scheme is always developed individually, depending on the characteristics of the organism of the expectant mother.
