Degenerative-deforming changes may concern both the connections of the vertebral bodies and the joints of the spine. Interbody junctions are the most common cause of degenerative-deforming changes in the spine, as degenerative changes in the intervertebral discs play an important role here.

They can occur at different levels of the spine. If the changes apply to cervical spine, there are pains radiating to the shoulders, numbness of the fingers, especially at night. The changes may be accompanied by headaches in the occipital area. If the changes occur in thoracic segment spine, may give neurological symptoms in the form of intercostal neuralgia. When this neuralgia is located on the left side, it may suggest a cardiac type of ailments.

symptoms

Most often, the changes are located in the lumbar spine and are one of the main causes of pain. They may be of the nature of muscle pain, and in the case of pressure on the nerve root, they are sometimes accompanied by symptoms of sciatica.

Since the symptoms of degenerative-deforming changes are very diverse and may also accompany other diseases of the spine, it is essential to take an X-ray of the painful part of the spine before starting treatment.

Treatment

It is important to regulate the lifestyle, frequent rests, use exercises in order to maintain good muscular fitness and mobility of the spine, and eliminate pain. Rest and relief is primarily provided by the lying position, which is recommended several times a day.

In the cervical spine, an orthopedic collar can provide great relief, while in the lumbar spine – an orthopedic corset. Physical treatment is also recommended, especially warming up treatments. In order to warm up, you can use Poplar overload liner or other ointments with a similar effect.
