Elm is prized for its abundant large leaves. They give the crown volume and density. Foliage grows unevenly and may vary in size. The upper side of the leaf plate is rough, the lower side is smooth with a glossy sheen. In autumn, the leaves change from a bright green tone to golden yellow.

In spring, the tree blooms and many inflorescences appear on it, consisting of small, unremarkable flowers. In summer, fruits are formed – green nuts

Elms are grown for landscaping hedges, creating arches or garden compositions. They can decorate the site as a tapeworm and in mixed plantings. It is important to maintain an optimal distance. The tree does not tolerate dense plantings.

Ornamental trees and shrubs: leafy elm

The crown of the leafy elm is low. Its branches are covered with cork growths. The sheet plate has an elongated shape and sharpened toothed edges. Perianths on flowers are colored brownish-red. The tree is demanding on the quality of the soil:

  • the soil should not contain a large amount of salt;
  • for the development of the root system, a high content of micronutrients is necessary;
  • the soil should be loose and light with good aeration.

Drought does not damage the plant, nor does short-term flooding. Strong branches are resistant to strong wind gusts. A strong root system, located superficially, strengthens the soil and prevents the development of erosion.

Can grow well in shade, but cannot withstand complete lack of light.

The average life expectancy is 80 years. Reproduction is carried out by grafting.

Elm is prized for its aesthetic characteristics and high quality wood. It is used for landscaping landscaping. Suitable for both small and large areas. Cork build-ups are used in industrial production.
