Decimals in Excel

In this tutorial, we will show you how to round numbers and how to hide decimal places in Excel without changing the value itself.

  1. Enter the number 2.175 into a cell A1.
  2. Double click the button Decrease Decimal (Decrease bit depth) in a group Number (Number) tab Home (Home). Also pay attention to the adjacent button Increase Decimal (Increase bit depth).Decimals in Excel

Note: If you look at the formula bar, you will see that the cell A1 still contains the value 2.175.

  1. By hiding some of the decimals, you can still use the exact (unrounded) value in calculations.Decimals in Excel

Note: If you want to use 2.2to get the result 6.6, round the value in the cell A1.
