Decalcifying baby: should i retract baby?
Infants have a penis that needs to be checked from time to time because it can contain dirt. These when they are not evacuated naturally can cause infections, even inflammation of the glans. How and with what precautions should this treatment be carried out?
Why is it advisable to retract your baby?
The tip of the penis is made up of what is called the glans, that is to say the end hidden by the piece of skin also called foreskin. In many religions, it is this piece of skin that is cut off during baptism.
This acorn is very sensitive, and even more so when the child is an infant. Sometimes the residues of urine or feces can get stuck under the skin and cause inflammation, redness. It can be very painful for the child.
The pediatrician then advises to practice enema care to allow these residues to be evacuated. This is called cracking. This practice involves gently pulling on the baby’s skin to release the glans. The parent must then clean it with water. No need to use too many products such as soaps and especially no alcoholic disinfectants. Never. The skin at this end is so fragile that it could damage it.
The easiest way is to take your time. Explain to the child, even the baby, why it is cleaned this way. Bath time is of course the best time to do this. The skin is softened by the heat of the water and the child is relaxed.
In which cases should the penis be retracted?
This specific toilet is only used in cases where the doctor has noticed redness. It is advisable to consult it before undertaking this treatment yourself. The intimacy of a young child being the same as that of an adult, this gesture remains invasive for the child.
Doctors recommend cracking in order to reduce redness, due to:
- a lack of hygiene;
- excessively sticky skin (infants’ skin being very supple);
- pathology;
- a malformation of the reproductive system.
The reasons are numerous and they are indicated to the parents according to the medical examination. Parents are then invited to follow special hygiene measures:
- the purchase of hypoallergenic diapers;
- the use of neutral soap for the toilet;
- the water used can also have allergenic properties.
What are the symptoms of glans irritation?
These irritations of the glans can cause a newborn to a significant disturbance of his mood. Having your penis on fire is not easy.
He can be embarrassed:
- in his sleep ;
- every time he urinates;
- when he defecates;
- or during the day when changing diapers.
When the parent notices an abnormality in the penis, he must first make sure that the infant is urinating regularly. It is possible to note the hours, in order to have a concrete assessment to present to the pediatrician.
This will indeed ask the frequency of urine and feces.
Young parent, a justified concern
The penis is an important member of the body. It eliminates toxins and eventually reproduces. It is therefore justified to worry when the parent has the impression of a dysfunction.
The services of the PMI (Protection Maternelle Infantile) can listen to these questions. The PMI is present in each city and for some it also offers contact by telephone.
A first examination carried out by a midwife can also provide reassurance. These professionals can also show the gesture of recessing, because this is not easy for all parents.
What are the contraindications?
This technique is strongly contraindicated following operations for malformations of the genital system. It is therefore not recommended to carry out the treatments yourself.
The penis is so sensitive that tearing the skin would be extremely painful for the infant. Better to leave that to the professionals. Nursery nurses, for example, are trained in this gesture.
It is also not recommended to perform this treatment after circumcisions. During this practice, the skin called the foreskin, which covers the glans, is severed. This cut involves paying special attention to hygiene care right after. There may then be some skin left that can be pulled back over the penis. It is recommended to let this part return to its place before handling it.
The infant born with this little natural headgear. Nature allows this extremity to remain free from irritation. It is therefore not essential to cut it. This technique remains a religious belief.
Circumcision is most commonly practiced by professionals authorized to perform it. It is recommended to take all the information on this practice, and the conditions in which it will be carried out, in order to protect the child from unnecessary suffering. The act of circumcision is tolerated in France within the religious framework and carried out by a person only authorized by the persons in charge, in connection with the French State.
