Davercin is an antibacterial drug intended for general use. Due to the presence of the active substance – erythromycin – it belongs to the group of antibiotics.

Davercin – action
Davercin is an antibiotic that works through a mechanism erythromycin. The drug helps to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial proteins, which prevents the growth and multiplication of bacterial cells. The use of the active substance in the form of cyclic erythromycin carbonate translates into a stronger antibacterial effect and better absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
Davercin – purpose and dosage
Davercin is an antibiotic that is used to treat infections such as:
- upper respiratory tract infection,
- infection of the outer ear and middle ear,
- lower respiratory tract infection,
- skin and soft tissue infection,
- gastrointestinal infections
- gingivitis.
Dosage
Davercin is a prescription medicine, so be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Adults: the starting dose should be 750 mg once, and then 500 mg every 12 hours. In severe infections, the dose may be increased to as much as 2 g per day in divided doses of 1 g every 12 hours.
- Children: the initial dose is 30 mg per 1 kg of body weight once, followed by 15 mg per 1 kg of body weight every 12 hours.
It is recommended to take the tablets on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
Davercin – contraindications to use
The Davercin leaflet informs about contraindications to use. These include:
- hypersensitivity to the active substance or any component of the preparation,
- severe liver failure,
- taking drugs such as: astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine.
Davercin – warnings
Warnings for the use of Davercin:
- do not exceed the recommended dose,
- the drug may aggravate the symptoms of myasthenia gravis,
- the drug may cause excessive development of resistant to treatment bacteria and fungi,
- diarrhea may occur during treatment – contact your doctor immediately.
Davercin – drug interactions
Davercin may interact with other medications, so you should inform your doctor about taking any preparations – including those available without a prescription.
The antibiotic cannot be used in parallel with:
- astemizole
- cyzaprydem,
- pimozydem,
- terfenadine,
- Alkaloidal spores.
Please inform your doctor if you are taking medications such as:
- mizolastine, bromocriptine, hexobarbital, midazolam, tacrolimus, triazolam, valproic acid, rifabutin, zopiclone,
- drugs that can prolong the QT interval on the ECG,
- anticoagulants,
- oral contraceptives,
- phenytoin, alfentanil, methylprednisolone, benzodiazepine derivatives.
Davercin – side effects
Like all drugs, Davercin can also have some side effects. They include, among others nausea, vomiting, gas, abnormal liver function, headache and dizziness, hearing impairment, liver failure.
