Date and time formats in Excel

Date and time in Excel can be displayed in various forms. To apply the format Dates or Time, follow the instructions below.

  1. Select cell A1.
  2. Right click and select Format Cells (cell format).
  3. The list Category (Number formats) specify Date (Date) and set the format type you want to display the date.Date and time formats in Excel

Note: To apply the time format, select Time (Time) from the list of number formats.

  1. Dates in Excel are stored as numbers and represent the number of days that have passed since January 0 1900 years. Time is treated by the program as a number between 0 и 1. To see this, change the number format of the cells A1, B1 и C1 on General (General).Date and time formats in Excel

Note: As you can see, 41083 days since January 0, 1900 – the same as June 23, 2012. 6:00 presented as 0.25 – that is, a quarter of a day.

  1. You can enter time like this: 6:00. But Excel will display it in formula bar as 6: 00: 00 AM. AM is used as a determinant of night and morning time. PM – afternoon and evening.Date and time formats in Excel

Note: Cell С1 still contains the value 41083.25. We only changed the appearance, not the value itself.

  1. Finally, if you can’t find a suitable date or time format, create your own.
