Nikita, 8 years old, chose Daniel Pennack’s book Dog Dog

“When my mother started reading this book to me, I was a little capricious, because I love cats and I don’t really like dogs. But the story turned out to be very interesting! Most of all I liked the place when the Dog was going on vacation with his owners. They drove from Paris to Nice by car. The father of the girl, the mistress of the Dog, hated this Dog. And he made it so that other people took the Dog and threw it away. And the Dog walked back to Paris. There he gathered friends — cats and dogs — and went with them to his apartment. They made a real rout there, did everything they wanted! But the girl’s room was not touched, because the Dog loved her very much. The pictures in the book are beautiful. Do not think that since they are black and white, it means that they are gloomy and boring. I look at cats or at Gienych’s dog and think: “Oh, how well they drew everything here!” I would recommend everyone to read this book. True, maybe not all girls will like it. When strangers take Dog away, it’s scary, and girls don’t like to read about the rout in the apartment. And that’s the kind of adventure I like.»

Book reviewer Daria Rybina comments:

“Daniel Pennac’s story is one of the most significant works of modern French literature for children. She talks about the fate of a homeless dog. The fact that every dog has a main goal in life: to raise an owner who will be a true friend. This is not an easy task at all, because people mature seven times slower than dogs, and therefore they understand what friendship, love and responsibility are seven times slower.”
