What types of dandruff are there?

In common understanding, dandruff is most often associated with exfoliation of the epidermis within the scalp, a characteristic symptom of which is white flakes on the hair, flaking onto clothes. Dry scalp dandruff – a common problem

Dry dandruff (pityriasis simplex), also known as ordinary dandruff, is a condition consisting of fine flake exfoliation of the scalp. As a result of this process, gray-white and loose scales are formed, which are observed at the top of the head and around the temples. The occurrence of dry dandruff is sometimes accompanied by drying and brittleness of the hair. It happens that this form of dandruff occurs not only on the scalp, but also around the eyebrows, eyelids and cheeks.

The formation of dandruff within the scalp is the result of damage to the natural barriers that protect the epidermis. It comes to this through excessive drying of the skin resulting from external factors (intensively washing shampoos, hard water, low air humidity) and insufficient production by the body of moisturizing and moisturizing factors for the skin. Dandruff is also caused by yeast fungi.

If you have dandruff, reach for Bioherba refreshing and moisturizing hair spray with aloe vera, which soothes the scalp and supports the fight against dandruff, as well as hair shampoo – oily scalp Bioherba with a natural composition enriched with, among others o rosemary hydrolate.

Dry dandruff-like skin peeling in other parts of the body, including the trunk, may be caused by excessive dryness of the skin. This condition is caused not only by external factors, but also by various diseases, including atopic dermatitis, hypothyroidism, immunological and neurological disorders, ichthyosis, and taking certain medications.

W treat dandruff usually anti-dandruff shampoos are the mainstay of treatment. Self-treatment of the disease may turn out to be ineffective, and it is likely that in such a situation the symptoms will recur. Using anti-dandruff shampoos too often can aggravate the problem because the substances they contain can dry out the skin excessively at certain stages of the disease. In addition, there is a risk that, with long-term use, a given agent will no longer be effective, as there will be a loss of sensitivity to a given active substance.

Therefore, it is best to consult a dermatologist who will recognize whether you are dealing with dry dandruff or some other skin disease. The specialist may choose the treatment in such a way as to appropriately differentiate the active substances and, if necessary, prescribe an antifungal agent.

  1. For dandruff-prone scalp care, choose Gentle Daily Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with Anthyllis Sage and Nettle Extract, which is vegan and not tested on animals.

Oily dandruff on the scalp and the risk of baldness

Oily dandruff (pityriasis seborrhoica) is a type of scalp dandruff combined with seborrhea. The disease affects the seborrheic zones of the skin – not only within the hairy scalp, but also the back, neckline, the area between the breasts and the T-zone of the face. In the course of oily dandruff, oily, yellow scales are formed on the top of the head, which stick firmly to the skin. In the largest outbreaks of oily dandruff yellow stupas are formed, the disease is accompanied by inflammation, itching and secondary infections.

Attention

In the course of chronic oily dandruff, hair thinning and alopecia may be irreversible.

For the treatment of scalp dandruff anti-inflammatory agents (ciclopirox), antifungal agents (e.g. climbazole, ketoconazole), keratolytic agents (e.g. tar, resoricin, lactic acid, salicylic acid) and cytostatic agents (octopyrox or ichthyol) are used. The doctor will prescribe a treatment that is appropriate to the type of dandruff. It is especially important to adjust the therapy if dry dandruff and oily dandruff may occur alternately.

Scales on the scalp, but also elsewhere on the body, can result from seborrheic dermatitis. It is a condition that requires proper skin care. It is worth reaching, for example, for cosmetics for seborrheic dermatitis Seborh. We also recommend an intensively cleansing nettle shampoo that regulates the secretion of sebum and prevents dandruff.
