How does Dalacin C work?

Dalacin C is a derivative of lincomycin, a natural antibiotic. It contains clindamycin, which is its active substance, which inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins. The drug also blocks bacterial cell structures and ribosomes – as a result, growth, multiplication of bacterial cells stops. Dalacin is also bacteriostatic and bactericidal.

Dalicn C is a drug with a broad effect. Due to clindamycin it is quickly absorbed into tissues and bones, but much less into the cerebrospinal fluid. The preparation is sometimes used by people allergic to penicillin, who experience swelling, itching of the skin, redness and watery eyes, headache and a sudden drop in pressure after taking it.

Dalacin C – warnings

In case of renal or hepatic dysfunction, caution and monitoring of blood levels of clindamycin is necessary, as its biological half-life is prolonged. If necessary, your doctor will advise you to reduce the dose or extend the time intervals between doses.

Clindamycin is not removed from the body during hemodialysis, and therefore no additional dose of the preparation is required by people undergoing hemodialysis (before or after dialysis).

The preparation for injection or infusion can be administered intramuscularly (directly after being taken from the ampoule) or intravenously after appropriate dilution, according to the recommendations of the preparation manufacturer. In the case of intravenous administration, after diluting the preparation, the appropriate dose should be infused intravenously over a period of at least 10-60 minutes (depending on the dose). It is not recommended to administer doses higher than 600 mg as a single intramuscular injection, and doses higher than 60 mg as a 1200-minute intravenous infusion.

Blood counts, kidney and liver function should be monitored continuously when Dalacin C is taken for more than three weeks.

If you need a blood count, do basic blood tests available all over Poland. Everyone should do them at least once a year to monitor their health.

  1. Long-term use of an antibiotic may lead to the development of resistant bacteria and fungi, so you should constantly monitor for new symptoms of infection.
  2. Dalacin C penetrates very poorly into the cerebrospinal fluid, therefore it should not be administered to patients being treated for meningitis.
  3. Administration of antibiotics to penicillin allergic patients can lead to severe hypersensitivity reactions, even those which are life-threatening (e.g. anaphylactic reactions or angioedema). This state of affairs should be consulted with a doctor immediately.
  4. Persistent diarrhea may develop during or after treatment with Dalacin C. Don’t heal them yourself! Consult your doctor as there may be pseudomembranous enteritis, which is manifested by symptoms such as stools with mucus and blood, or colic pain in the abdomen.
  5. The antibiotic should not be administered in the form of injections and intravenous infusions to newborns and premature babies, because the benzyl alcohol contained in them can lead to respiratory failure and, consequently, death.
  6. Patients with galactose intolerance, lactose deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not take the preparation (especially capsules and granules), because it contains lactose.
  7. Dalacin C in the form of granules for the preparation of a syrup contains sucrose.
  8. There is no information that Dalacin C affects the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery / machines.
  9. Pregnant women should not take antibiotics unless considered essential by their doctor.
  10. Breastfeeding women should also not take the drug.

Oregano oil is a dietary supplement that neutralizes bacteria. It is a natural antibiotic that works well, inter alia, in the ailments of the digestive system, has antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Dalacin C is a sister

Before taking any medication, always inform your doctor about the preparations that have been taken so far (even those without a prescription).

Inform the prescribing doctor for Dalacin C if you are taking:

  1. lincomycin;
  2. erythromycin or other macrolide antibiotics (in combination with Dalacin C they can reduce each other’s action and effectiveness);
  3. preparations that block neuromuscular conduction (clindamycin may increase their effect, which often leads to life-threatening conditions and intraoperative complications);
  4. oral contraceptive pills (Dalacin C and other antibiotics reduce the contraceptive effect);
  5. muscle relaxants in the form of: ether, tubocurarine, pancoronium halide.

Dalacin C – side effects

Taking Dalacin may cause side effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, jaundice, pseudomembranous enteritis, rash, itching, drug fever, shortness of breath, anaphylactic shock, thrombocytopenia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, dermatitis. The drug also reduces the number of leukocytes and granulocytes, inhibits neuromuscular conduction and increases the activity of liver enzymes.

Vaginitis can also be side effects. When the drug is given rapidly into a vein, it can cause cardiac and respiratory arrest. Among people using it, cases of various irritations and swellings at the place where the drug was administered have been reported.
