CZERNIAK it could be IT. Check it out!

You put your shirt on and you stop seeing IT. You cover IT with your sleeve and forget it. You turn away from the mirror and stop asking yourself if THIS can be dangerous. Don’t leave question marks on your skin. CZERNIAK it could be IT. Check it out.

THIS – a new mole or birthmark that changed appearance – THIS could be melanoma. Of course, it doesn’t have to. But is it worth the risk?

  1. 90 percent Poles know what melanoma is, but only one in six of us showed IT to a dermatologist or oncologist, and 6 percent. of us never visited a doctor to examine a suspicious birthmark [i].
  2. Early detection of a neoplastic lesion allows 90 percent. cases, cure melanoma surgically [ii].
  3. In Poland, melanoma is diagnosed too late, therefore 1 in 3 patients die [iii] because of this disease.

«We see a new mole on the skin or it seems that one of the birthmarks has changed its appearance. So what are we doing? Unfortunately, as a rule, nothing! And any such situation should be an alarm bell. An impulse to visit a dermatologist »emphasizes Joanna Łojko from the Rak’n’Roll Foundation.

The goal of the campaign «CZERNIAK it may be IT. Check THIS »is a change of approach

and attitudes from which the incidence of melanoma results – from passive to active. So how can you protect yourself from melanoma? Above all, ACT! Starting from protecting yourself against UV rays, through regular skin inspection, to the most important point – visiting a doctor when a disturbing birthmark appears on the skin. It is at this point that Poles often give up, thus wasting their chances of health [iv].

«High awareness of melanoma is not enough – if we do not act. Knowing that melanoma is one of the most dangerous cancers will not help – if we continue to leave question marks on our skin. Czerniak will still win – if we do not start regularly examining the skin in a professional manner »adds Joanna Łojko.

The campaign was prepared to provide reliable information on skin protection, risk groups, the impact of sunlight and the use of a tanning bed on the skin. By following the Facebook profile and the website of the Rak’n’Roll Foundation, as well as information in the media, you will be able to find out how quickly melanoma develops, what a professional examination of moles should look like at a dermatologist and when to consult an oncologist.

The campaign will also provide information on when to cut a nevus, what to do with the result of the histopathological examination and what to remember and what tests to perform if the disease is advanced.

The scope of the educational campaign was developed on the basis of conclusions from regional expert debates as part of the “Cities versus Czerniak” project.
