It is a medicine given to prevent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. The preparation is administered simultaneously with drugs from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers as well as hemorrhagic lesions and erosions caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is a prescription drug.

Cytotec – action

The drug Cytotec accelerates the healing of peptic ulcers and the relief of their symptoms. It protects the gastric and duodenal mucosa by inhibiting the basal, stimulated and nocturnal secretion of hydrochloric acid and reducing the volume and proteolytic activity of gastric juice, as well as by increasing the secretion of bicarbonates and mucus. Cytotec – dosage

The preparation is intended for adults. The safety and efficacy of the drug in patients under 18 years of age have not been established. The drug is taken orally. The dose and frequency of intake is determined by the doctor. The tablets should be taken with meals. When used as recommended, the drug does not affect psychophysical fitness and the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Cytotec – precautions

Do not use the drug in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance, other prostaglandins or any of the excipients. Do not use in pregnant women and in women planning to become pregnant. The drug should not be used in premenopausal women. It is recommended that in these patients the drug should only be used if the patient: is using effective contraception and has been informed about the risks of taking this medicine during pregnancy.

The drug should be used with caution in conditions such as cerebral vascular disease, ischemic heart disease or severe peripheral vascular disease, including hypertension, where hypotension may contribute to severe complications. Patients predisposed to diarrhea (e.g. in inflammatory bowel diseases) should take the drug with food and avoid antacids. The drug must be used with caution in patients for whom dehydration may be dangerous.

Cytotec – side effects

Very often: diarrhea, rash.

Often: dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, constipation, indigestion, flatulence, nausea, vomiting.

Not so often: vaginal bleeding (including bleeding in postmenopausal women), bleeding between periods, menstrual disorders, uterine contractions, fever.

Rarely: menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea.

Not known: anaphylactic reactions, amniotic fluid embolism, abnormal uterine contractions, fetal death, incomplete miscarriage, preterm labor, placenta arrested, uterine rupture, uterine perforation, uterine haemorrhage, birth defects, chills.
