THEurinary tract infection, or cystitis, touch 10% of women during their pregnancy. It is more common than before you were pregnant because theuterus, as it grows, compresses the bladder, and the latter does not always completely empty. Simple actions exist to avoid it.
Cystitis: our prevention tips
Avoid pregnant cystitis: water and more water!
To avoid cystitis, there is no secret: drink ! Preferably water, of course, and about 2 liters per day. To do this, take a large glass of water every hour, from sunrise to sunset. Or a water bottle, so you can see how much water you are drinking in a day. You can also opt for lightly flavored water if you don’t like the taste of the water, but beware of the sugar! keep in mind that hot periods are more conducive to urinary tract infections, as you become more dehydrated.
Also remember to urinate after sex, because friction in the intimate area can cause bacteria to rise into the bladder. This advice is also valid for all women and not just pregnant women.
Cystitis and underwear: long live cotton!
Preferably wear underwear in cotton. Admittedly, they are less glamorous than lace, but clearly more comfortable and cotton allows air to circulate, which synthetic does not allow, which can also be irritating and lead to vaginal yeast infection. Much less glamorous, suddenly!
Wide and comfortable clothes
Quickly wear maternity pants looser than your jeans. The latter, too tight, may promote urinary tract infections because the pubic area can not breathe and remains in its moisture.
Cranberry galore against cystitis during pregnancy
In prevention of urinary tract infections, make cures of cranberry juice, or cranberry, and this regularly throughout your pregnancy. This small berry would be effective in fighting against recurrences of cystitis, and can be taken in addition to treatment with antibiotics. It would act by preventing pathogenic bacteria from attaching to the walls of the bladder.
Note that you can also enjoy whole cranberries, lightly candied. Prefer them from organic farming, to avoid pesticides.
Pregnant cystitis: when to consult?
If in doubt, and if the pain persists for more than a day and / or is accompanied by fever, consult quickly your doctor or midwife, as any urinary tract infection can quickly escalate and reach the kidneys (pyelonephritis). Hence the need to take antibiotic treatment to overcome the responsible bacteria.
