Cyclophrenia is the less and less used term for a mental illness in which depressive phases occur cyclically or alternating between the phases of depression and mania. The name cyclophrenia has been replaced and is known as bipolar disorder.
Cyclophrenia is a disease characterized by cyclical pathological changes in moods: depression, i.e. sadness, depression and loss of will to live and mania, i.e. an unnaturally elevated mood of euphoria, contentment, grandiose thoughts and a tendency to dangerous behavior. Currently, psychologists define the name unipolar cyclical diseasej recurrence of depression. Whereas bipolar disorder (bipolar disorder) is a term referring to the variable states of depression and mania.
Cyclophrenia – causes
Unequivocal cause affective disorder is unknown. However, it can be said that genetics are of great importance. In addition, scientists suggest that it is associated with periodic changes in the levels of important neurotransmitters such as catecholamine, dopamine, noradrenaline, and serotonin. Psychologists they also take into account microtrauma of the brain as one of the causes of affective disease. It has also been shown that lonely people, deprived of social support, experiencing difficult and stressful events, are at greater risk of falling ill.
ChAD it is characterized by a disturbance of the hormones secreted in the body under stressful situations. In the course of the research, it was also noticed that the structures of the brain undergo changes. Some centers, e.g. those responsible for emotions, grow larger, which reduces their effectiveness. Brain functions become uncoordinated.
Cyclophrenia – consequences
Symptoms of the sick person they depend on what state it is in. Unipolar affective disorder manifests itself in the fact that the patient is sad, depressed, loses the will to live, has black thoughts. It often happens that the sick person is apathetic, has no energy, does not feel willing to act, is accompanied by a feeling of helplessness and uselessness, thinks that he will not be able to cope with any task, very often lowers his value. This is most evident in everyday duties, which the patient neglects, becomes incapable of work, and his movements are slowed down. Patients also have problems with maintaining concentration, memory and mental performance. It appears most often obsessively focusing on one thing or idea that cannot be abandoned. Everyone symptoms accompanied by a feeling of fear and guilt. The patient’s condition is so depressive that he is accompanied by suicidal thoughts and repeated attempts to take his life in order to free himself from this state. This type of depression lasts for about 6-9 months in an untreated patient. This is followed by a period of remission that lasts for 6-10 years. Then relapses they appear more often, about 7-8 times during the patient’s life.
Bipolar Affective Disorder
W bipolar disorder the course of depression is similar to that of the course bipolar disorderj. In this case, however, depression occurs along with periods of mania. However, they do not alternate. Manic phases one after another, and so can the depressive phases. Any case of getting this type cyclofrenii it is different and therefore it is difficult to diagnose it. Mania is a period when the patient is constantly excited, full of euphoria, ideas and vigor. Such a person infects with positive energy and joy, and is also convinced of his uniqueness. A milder condition called hypomaniamanifests itself in behavior within the tolerance limits. Therefore, such people are considered great companions, the soul of the party, they become extremely attractive to the opposite sex. Such behavior, however, leads to dangers, such as using drugs, gambling and dangerous car driving. It often happens that they lose money without memory or fall victim to fraud, which makes them dangerous to their loved ones. Phase sperm it may last for days, months or years. There is no way of knowing which phase will come after phase sperm.
The treatment of the disease is long-term and involves the use of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. The most commonly used are lithium salts, valproic acid, lamotrigine and atypical antipsychotics. Different treatments are reserved for acute mania and other treatments are for depressive episodes.
