Not all of us are familiar with all cutlery – we are used to using a fork, spoon and knife and feel great with this simple set. But even those who are familiar with dining etiquette do not always recognize these unusual devices.
Cooking fork
This fork has 3 prongs that are sharper and shorter than a regular dessert fork. The cocktail fork dates back to the 16th and 17th century and is used for hot fish snacks. In our restaurants, it is often served with herring or sliced lemon, although this is fundamentally wrong. Lemon has its own cutlery with two sharp teeth, and herring is a cold appetizer.
Thrones
Trongs look like pincers that fit over three fingers of each hand. Their purpose is to keep your hands clean while eating. The device is made of expensive plastic. Trongs are used to eat fatty foods that should be eaten by hand, such as ribs, fatty meats, or chicken. In our restaurants, this cutlery is rare, but in the United States, even fast food outlets offer their customers trongs for eating.
Fish tweezers
It is used in countries where a lot of fish is consumed – without these tweezers it is simply impossible to enjoy the taste of the dishes. With the help of tweezers, you can easily free the fish from the bones and start eating. This applies to dishes that are not intended to be cleaned before cooking.
String cheese knife
Perhaps you yourself are convinced that it is very inconvenient to cut cheese even with the sharpest ordinary knife. The string for cheese easily copes with the task, cutting the product into even portions. It looks like this: at the base of the knife is a wooden or glass support, on which a thin fishing line is stretched. In expensive restaurants, you will be served uncut cheese with such a knife, so that you yourself can decide how to distribute the cheese.
Spoon fork
This cutlery is often found in establishments in the United States and Mexico. It is intended for dishes where there is a lot of thick, but broth is also present – thick soups or main dishes with sauce. It looks like an ordinary spoon with four prongs at the ends.
Recall that earlier we talked about how cutlery appeared in general, and also advised what things in the kitchen are better to get rid of.
