Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

In addition to excellent taste, currants have the following advantages:

  • Solid winter hardiness. It is able to survive even severe Siberian frosts.
  • Stable high yield. From a bush, you can collect up to 6 kg of large fruits.
  • Resistant to many diseases and pests such as powdery mildew and anthracnose.
  • Resistant to adverse weather conditions, tolerates drought and prolonged absence of watering.
  • The “Pygmy” variety is self-fertile, does not require planting of other varieties.
  • Undemanding to care for.

Of the shortcomings, only one can be distinguished, currants cannot always resist septoria and kidney mites. But timely prevention of the pest by spraying with specialized preparations will help solve this problem. Processing should be carried out before bud break, before flowering.

Against septoria, you can use copper sulfate or 1% Bordeaux liquid. The kidney mite is destroyed with nitrafen (150 g per 5 l of water) or colloidal sulfur (50 g per 5 l of water)

The Pygmy variety has many advantages. Growing this berry will bring a lot of pleasure even to a novice gardener, since it is undemanding to care for, unpretentious and gives a lot of yields consistently.
