Curettage is one of the most common uterine treatments. It is a procedure that women do not associate well with, but often there are many indications to perform it. What is curettage? When do we have to undergo the procedure? How is it going and what are the possible complications after its implementation?
Curettage the uterus is otherwise called abrasion uterus. The name comes from the fact that the procedure is performed with a special surgical tool with a shape tsp, which is designed to exfoliate the tissues on the walls of the uterus.
Although most associate this procedure primarily as a therapeutic procedure, in fact it can also serve diagnostic purposes. It is performed, inter alia, in order to collect material from the inside of the uterus for further examination. Abrasion of the uterine cavity is performed under general anesthesia and the entire procedure is very short. Usually, after the procedure, the patient has to stay in the hospital for about one day. During this time, doctors and nurses monitor the condition of the woman after the procedure, and if everything goes well, she may be released home. It is worth remembering that bleeding may appear as a result of the abrasion. If it clears up within a few days, this should not be a concern. In addition, patients are often accompanied by pain in the uterus and reproductive organs. If it persists, see your doctor immediately to find out what’s wrong.

However, since this procedure is often stressful for women, it is worth ensuring the right amount of sleep the night before it is performed, which will help regenerate the body and get rid of excessive stress.
As with any treatment, curettage may cause some complications. Unfortunately, some of them can be very serious. The most common complications of this type include, among others, various damage to the uterus. There is a risk of perforation of the uterine wall, as well as various bleeding from the uterine cavity and the development of infections within it.
Occasionally, some women develop Asherman’s syndrome. It consists of characteristic adhesions inside the uterine cavity that are complication after various injuries that occurred during the procedure curettage.
Today curettage it does not carry a lot of risk complicationswhen the procedure is performed by a specialist and in a properly equipped clinic, but formerly a procedure curettage it was associated with greater risk, which is why so many women, even today, fear the dangerous complications. Although the procedure is not pleasant, it should be performed on the recommendation of a doctor, as avoiding it can lead to much more serious health consequences.
