A promising new study showed some time ago that curcumin, an ingredient in turmeric commonly used in Indian cooking, has great cancer-fighting potential. This time, scientists focused on cancer of the esophagus.

Research at the University of Kansas Cancer Center and Medical Center shows that curcumin inhibits the growth of cancerous cells of esophageal cancer, although the exact way it works has not yet been well understood. The results of these studies are particularly noteworthy if we know that esophageal cancer is the eighth most common type of cancer in the world and the sixth most lethal. In the United States alone, from 4 to 10 people out of 100 it dies from esophageal cancer every year. The disease mainly affects men over 50.
