Cupcakes, muffins and cupcakes – what is the difference between them

The recipes for these dessert dishes are very similar. However, confusion often arises, because cupcakes, muffins and cupcakes are not at all the same, and the geography of their origin is different. So what is the difference between cupcakes, muffins and cupcakes?

Cupcakes

Cupcake is an invention of French chefs that appeared in 1755 and looked like a small shell. Today, with the invention of a variety of baking dishes, muffins have a more traditional shape for us – a small bun with corrugated walls. Cupcakes have the main feature – a fluffy porous and slightly dry structure, as the cake dough takes a long time to whip. Cupcakes also contain butter and taste like regular biscuits.

 

Muffins

Muffins are an English dish that appeared in 1720. The word moofin is translated as “soft bread” and originally this pastry was prepared for the use of snacks, and not as a sweet dessert. Muffins are flatter in appearance, and the top does not rise like a cupcake. Their sugar content is also lower. Therefore, the muffin is successfully combined and emphasizes the taste of the sauces served with them. Savory muffins are also prepared for serving with savory additions. The muffin dough does not need to be whipped so that the texture of the baked goods is not too porous.

Cupcakes

Cupcakes are an American dish, and in fact are separate mini-cakes. Cupcake was first mentioned in 1828 in Eliza Leslie’s cookbook. Back then, cakes were still baked in cups or special smooth dishes, and any small cake is still called a cupcake. The cupcake is necessarily decorated with cream, icing or whipped cream, it is prepared for children’s parties, because a small cake in paper packaging is more convenient to eat with children’s hands.
