Culinary Zinema, 7 movies and 7 dinners

The San Sebastian Film Festival returns with the film and gastronomy section

Culinary Zinema is a section of projections within the wide range of themes of the San Sebastian Film Festival, San Sebastian Film Festival.

The section dedicated to gastronomy celebrates its sixth edition this year, and was created in collaboration with the Berlin International Film Festival and is organized jointly with the Basque Culinary Center.

The aim of Culinary Zinema is to unite cinema with gastronomy, through the development of various activities related to food, in the fields of education, science and agriculture. All this enlivened with traditional and themed dinners.

As in the previous editions of the Culinary Zinema, the screenings will take place one each day, and its insolvency activity remains unchanged, awarding the € 10.000 prize to the film best valued by the professional jury destined for the occasion.

For this edition, the gastro film microfestival has the company Nespresso as a sponsor.

The Tokyo Gohan award for the film of this 2016 edition is already preparing to be assigned to one of the Six documentaries or the feature film of the stories about the origins, traditions and future of food …

  • Saturday 17 is projected Theater of Life, a journey through the experience of the Reffetorio Ambrosiano, a soup kitchen promoted by Massimo Bottura. Dinner will be given by the Basque Culinary Center, and its team of chefs-teachers.
  • On Sunday 18, it is the turn of All about the Asado, a trip to a meal and a ritual that portrays an essential part of the Argentine identity. Dinner will be hosted by Joxean Eizmendi’s Asador Illara.
  • On Monday the 19th, T enters the scenehe Turkish Way, where the Roca brothers are the protagonists of this film where Turkish gastronomy is the source of inspiration for the learning of Girona, as the basis of one of the most unknown, powerful and ancient cuisines on the planet. Dinner will be served by the Basque Culinary Center and led by chef Mehmet Gürs.
  • On Tuesday the 20th the film by Mitsuhito Shirada is screened, Mama, gohan mada? / What’s for Dinner, Mom?, which is based on the life of the writer and actress Tae Hitoto. Dinner is prepared by Mikel Gallo and Cheung Yat Sing with the collaboration of Ni Neu.
  • Wednesday 21 arrives Low Taste, The documentary by Mexican Roberto Nájera, where the new cuisine takes on an unusual role by the hand of 4 chefs. The dinner is in charge of the BBC led by Javier Plasencia.
  • On Thursday 22, it is the turn of Bugs, where René Redzepi’s Nordic Food Lab and his advances on insects in gastronomy are the basis for the film’s study. Dinner will be served by the BBC and captained by Roberto Flore.
  • On Friday 23 the screenings are closed with Tsukiji Wonderland, the documentary about Tsukiji Market, the octogenarian market in central Tokyo, where fish and seafood are the source of inspiration. Dinner will be served by the BBC under the direction of Ricardo Sanz.

Since last September 5, tickets are on sale to participate in the screening and dinner. at the price of 70 euros through the web pages of the Festival and Kutxabank.

Tickets only for the films went on sale last Sunday, September 11, at a price of 7,20 euros.
