Cucumber Courage: variety description, photo
Cucumbers “Courage” – a hybrid of the first generation, bred by Russian breeders. It is cultivated in open and protected ground. Let’s see what features and advantages this culture has.
Description of the variety of cucumbers “Courage”
These plants do not require pollination, they develop mainly female flowers. These varieties give high yields in greenhouses. They can be grown in beds in rainy climates when pollination of common varieties is difficult. As a rule, the type of ovary is bouquet.
The cucumber bush is high, the length of the lashes reaches 3,5 m. The lateral shoots are poorly developed. Flowers and brushes are located in the axils. The leaf cover is dense, the leaves are medium-sized, smooth, bright green in color.
Zelentsy pimply, small, weighing about 100 g. Large dark green fruits ripen on the central shoot, on the lateral lashes they are somewhat smaller. The pulp is crispy, without bitterness. The first cucumbers ripen by 45 days of cultivation. The fruits retain their presentation for a long time, tolerate transportation well. Suitable for pickling, pickling, fermentation and fresh consumption.
The “Courage” variety can be grown in any region of the country. The bushes tolerate temperature changes well, rarely get sick.
How to grow cucumbers “Courage”?
Crop yield depends on growing conditions and care. To get 15-20 kg from 1 sq. m beds, you need to heed the advice of gardeners:
- planting in greenhouses is done with a density of 2 bushes per 1 sq. m;
- the plant is formed into one stem, the lateral shoots are pinched over the first ovary;
- ovaries on the central shoot up to 5 leaves are removed;
- the bush is directed to the trellis.
With this method of growing, you can get 2 crops, which is typical for the southern regions of the country.
Keep in mind that the plant is demanding about the lack of moisture. Dryness of the soil is the first reason for the dropping of the ovary. From drought, the plant stops growing, bitterness appears in the fruits.
When growing cucumbers in greenhouses, you need to change the topsoil every 2-3 years. In place of the removed layer, rotted manure or humus is introduced, mineral fertilizers are added in the fall.
Cucumbers prefer fertile, loose and light soil
Look at the photo of “Courage” cucumbers. They are attractive in appearance, but to grow them, you have to work hard. Without the formation of bushes and pinching the shoots, it will not work to get a good harvest of marketable greens. When choosing a variety, consider all the characteristics of the culture.
