On a hot sultry day, it is difficult to find a more suitable cocktail than Cuba Libre. Invented more than a hundred years ago, it still does not go out of fashion today. Thanks to the available ingredients and ease of preparation, anyone can make a Cuba Libre cocktail at home. We will consider the correct recipe and technology.
Historical reference. Cocktail “Cuba Libre” (free Cuba) was first prepared in one of the bars in Havana in 1900. Two years earlier, the Cubans won the war with Spain, gaining independence from the mother country. American soldiers fought on their side.
Even after the victory, part of the American troops continued to remain on the island. One of these servicemen was Captain Russell, who liked to mix rum, cola, and lime juice. One day he found out that his favorite cocktail had no name. Then Russell exclaimed “¡Por Cuba libre!” (For a free Cuba). So the most popular toast of the Cuban coast became the name of a cocktail.
Cuba Libre combines Cuban rum and American cola well. At the beginning of the last century, it seemed that the friendship between the United States and Cuba would be eternal, so the inhabitants of both countries drank the cocktail with pleasure. But even after the actual break in relations, the drink was not forgotten. Now it is one of the most popular cocktails in the world.
Composition and proportions:
- golden rum (preferably BACARDI Gold) – 50 ml;
- coca-cola – 100 ml;
- lime – 1 quarter;
- ice cubes – 200 grams.
Cocktail recipe Cuba Libre
1. Fill a tall glass (highball) with ice cubes.
2. Squeeze the juice from a quarter of a lime (small lemon) into a glass.
3. Pour rum and cola.
4. Mix gently with a spoon.
5. Garnish with one or two lime slices.
6. Serve with a straw. Fortress – 15-18 degrees.
