Cuba confirms 51 new cases of cholera

In Cuba, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 51 new cases of cholera had been detected in Havana. It also ensured that the cholera outbreak was being liquidated. According to the authorities, no one has died, but the PA agency reports one fatality.

Water-borne diarrheal diseases have worsened since January 6, first in the Cerro district and then elsewhere, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the measures taken meant that the outbreak was being eliminated, and the authorities called on the residents to be alert to the observance of hygiene rules.

New cases of cholera were reported months after it was declared ending after an outbreak last summer, mainly in the eastern part of the country. Three people died then. Cuban authorities did not officially use the term epidemic to describe these cases. (PAP)
