Cream with salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is not such a terrible aggressor as you might think. If you are fighting blackheads and acne, this substance is on your side.

What is Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid belongs to beta-hydroxy acids and is a colorless crystals, poorly soluble in water and highly soluble in alcohol.

It is produced by chemical synthesis, and is included in the list of ingredients under the name Salicylic acid. For the first time, salicylic acid was isolated from willow bark (from Latin salix – “willow”) by the Italian chemist Rafael Piria at the end of the XNUMXth century.

Useful features and functions

Salicylic acid is one of the best ingredients for problem skin. Why?

  • Well exfoliates the stratum corneum of the skin. Destroys the bonds between dead cells, and they “peel off” from the surface of the epidermis. Skin tone and relief become more even.

  • By freeing the ducts of the sebaceous glands, it facilitates the outflow of sebum, which helps to reduce the size of pores and prevents black spots.

  • As a powerful exfoliator, it accelerates the process of skin renewal, as a result, lightening age spots and post-acne marks.

  • Due to its pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, it reduces the number of rashes and prevents new ones from appearing.

  • Significantly improves the bioavailability of other active ingredients that make up cosmetics.

How to choose a cream with salicylic acid

An important remark: if you have not just single acne, but a serious form of acne, do not treat the skin yourself, go to a dermatologist. Yes, salicylic acid is a great ingredient for problematic skin, but it’s not all-powerful. If acne is caused by a hormonal imbalance or other health problems, cosmetics alone will not do.

Salicylic acid increases the photosensitivity of the skin.

When choosing a cream, pay attention to its composition. By itself, salicylic acid is a non-aggressive component, but it dissolves best in alcohol. That is why alcohol is often included in cosmetics with this component (remember the pharmacy “talker”, which is prepared according to a dermatologist’s prescription).

As you know, alcohol dries the skin, so alcohol-containing creams and lotions for every day may not be suitable.

Like other acids, salicylic acid increases the photosensitivity of the skin. Do not forget about sunscreen not only in spring and summer, but also in autumn and even in winter. For the city, use creams with a protection factor SPF 15-30, for long walks under the sun or outdoor sports – SPF 50.
