Rusk has long been a simple and unassuming “recycled” product that goes well with milk or kefir as a light snack. Modern consumers also do not neglect this product.
Also, dried bread is used by many housewives for the preparation of some dishes and goes well with tea without harming the figure, in contrast to sweet pastries, which most people have long replaced with healthy and dietary crackers.
Traditionally, it is customary to make crackers in the oven, where they dry up and acquire a slightly toasted crust and crunchy texture. There are several methods for preparing breadcrumbs in the oven.
Cooking simple crackers at home
The most popular way to make crackers is to dry sliced bread (rye, black, loaf) on a baking sheet in an oven preheated to 120 degrees. The preparation time for the breadcrumbs is from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the desired degree of roasting.
Remember that black bread will take a little longer to dry than white bread, as it contains more moisture.
If you want to cook the rusks faster, preheat the oven to 200 degrees, but be careful not to burn them. A crouton cooked at a high temperature will be very crumbly. Crackers are soft inside, but with a crust can be obtained by drying them for 10-15 minutes on one side and 10-15 minutes on the other side.
Cooking crackers with dressing
To make flavored croutons with tomato and dill dressing, remember the following recipe. Combine some tomato paste with black pepper and salt and add a few tablespoons of olive oil to the finely chopped dill. Sprinkle half of the croutons with dill dressing and brush the other half with tomato paste dressing. You can process whole slices of bread (this is more convenient), and then cut them into crackers. After applying the dressing, place the baking sheet with the breadcrumbs in the oven and continue cooking in the traditional way.
Ready-made crackers can be consumed with a thick dip sauce, which is made on the basis of mayonnaise, kefir or yogurt, and is also produced with the taste of various vegetables.
To prepare flavored croutons for beer or tomato juice, pass a few cloves of garlic through a garlic press, add it to olive oil and season with your favorite spices. Lubricate the mixture with crackers and place them in the oven, where they will soak in the spicy sauce and acquire a unique taste and aroma.
Crackers cooked in the same way will be an excellent addition to the first courses – various soups, cabbage soup and borscht.
