Cracked lips: what to do?

Cracked lips: what to do?

Why do lips crack and bite at the corners of the mouth? And is there a way to solve the problem? In winter, these questions become especially relevant. Woman’s Day has found solutions that will keep your lips healthy and beautiful despite the vagaries of the weather.

If your lips start to crack

The main reason for the appearance of cracks on the lips is the evaporation of moisture. Most often, the problem occurs in those who constantly lick their lips, drink too little water during the day, and smoke. The situation is aggravated by improper nutrition, when vitaminized food is not included in the diet, there is a shortage of vitamins A, E, group B and lips begin to dry out and crack. The loss of moisture in the body can be measured.

But there are also more serious reasons: for example, diseases (diabetes mellitus and some systemic diseases of the connective tissue), severe dehydration after taking a large dose of diuretics, with high body temperature, prolonged diarrhea or vomiting. Often the cause of cracking is a breathing disorder, for example, from a runny nose.

How to treat: if the reason is a lack of vitamins, it is necessary to include in the diet healthy food (fruits, vegetables, fish, liver, red meat), start taking vitamin E and daily apply an oil solution of vitamins A and E or 1% erythromycin ointment to the lips. Cosmetics will also help: nourishing cream, lip balm and hygienic lipstick, you can apply them at any time, but especially well before going out and at night.

What to do if lips become stuck?

Most often, with the onset of cold weather, seizures appear on the lips – painful cracks in the corners of the mouth. Alas, cosmetic products will not help solve the problem. After all, it’s all about the lack of vitamins. Zayed is a disease resulting from a lack of vitamins A and B2. Poor oral care can worsen the problem.

How to treat: it is necessary to lubricate the lips with a fatty solution of vitamin A in capsules (retinol acetate) and an oil solution of vitamin E. Apply the preparations on the lips several times a day.

For prevention: it is necessary to replenish the lack of vitamins in the body. Vitamins C and group B, rosehip syrup, brewer’s yeast are suitable. Pay attention to nutrition, it is important to include fresh vegetables, dairy products in the diet, to give up spicy, sour and salty foods, and not to overload sweets.

The problem may also indicate inadequate oral care. Perhaps you just haven’t removed tartar for a long time. This should be done at least once a year.

If the treatment does not work: it is necessary to pass a laboratory scraping for streptococci, staphylococci and fungi of the genus Candida. If doctors find a problem, they will prescribe a course of antibacterial or antifungal drugs.
