Cracked lips: causes and treatment. Video
Under the influence of unfavorable factors, the delicate skin of the lips often begins to dry out and become covered with painful cracks. This does not reflect in the best way on the appearance and sometimes causes severe pain. With proper treatment and proper lip care, the problem can be solved in a matter of days.
The main reasons for the appearance of cracks on the lips
Most often, cracks on the lips appear in windy or cold weather, but another reason why lips dry out may be a long stay in the scorching sun.
In addition, the condition of the delicate skin of the lips may worsen due to the following factors:
- vitamin deficiency
- diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
- improper or insufficient lip care
- excessive consumption of salty, spicy and sour foods
- weakening of immunity
- fungal infection
- stress
- allergies
- taking certain medications
First of all, it is worth trying to eliminate or minimize the negative factors that led to the formation of cracks.
If the weather conditions are to blame for everything, it is necessary to lubricate your lips with hygienic lipstick or protective lip balm before going outside. If your lips are dry and chapped due to allergies or sour and spicy foods, you should review your diet. If the reason for the appearance of cracks lies in any systemic disease (infection, diseases of the digestive system), you must consult a doctor and undergo the recommended course of treatment.
You can treat lips for dryness and cracks with both pharmacy and home remedies. The best results can be achieved by combining several methods.
Before starting treatment for lip cracks, it is important to understand the reason why it appeared. Otherwise, the effect of fighting it will be unstable and after a while the problem will return again.
Regardless of the cause of dryness and cracking, it is important to keep your lips hydrated and nourished. To do this, you can use cosmetics that include hyaluronic acid, ceramides, natural oils and anti-inflammatory herbal extracts. In mild cases, when dry lips does not cause serious discomfort, vitamins A and E in oil can be dispensed with.
They should be applied to delicate skin 2-3 times a day until the lips stop dry and chapped.
You can also speed up the healing of cracked lips with a light massage. Before carrying out it, you need to lubricate your lips with cosmetic petroleum jelly or hygienic lipstick, and then rub the lower lip and then the upper lip with gentle circular movements of your fingers. This procedure increases blood circulation and accelerates tissue regeneration, but with deep cracks it can be quite painful.
It is possible to cure cracks on the lips without resorting to pharmacy products. A nourishing mask made from a teaspoon of honey and the same amount of olive oil works no worse than medicinal cosmetics and vitamin preparations. Apply the composition to the lips with a thin, barely noticeable layer. It is permissible not even to wash off such a mask, after waiting until it is completely absorbed. The procedure should be repeated 3-4 times a day until the cracks disappear completely.
