Cracks not only spoil the appearance of the walls and destroy the finishing layer. Without timely repairs, the situation may worsen. The work to eliminate these defects must be carried out carefully so that the cracks do not creep further and do not damage the adjacent sections of the wall.

Cracks in the wall: how to patch

Crack in a brick or concrete wall

For repairs you will need: – polyurethane foam; – spatula, chisel; – knife; – cement mixture.

If the crack on the wall is vertical, widen it with a metal tool at an oblique angle. Knock back the adjacent plaster on both sides of the crack by at least 30 cm. With a vacuum cleaner or brush, remove all dust and debris from the place of work. Treat the inner cleaned surface with a deep penetration primer, coat the outer edges of the crack as well. After the impregnation has dried, blow out the cavity with polyurethane foam using a balloon with a construction gun or with a fine nozzle. Leave to dry overnight.

Then cut off the protruding sections of the polyurethane foam with a slight deepening so that the outer wall covering can be applied evenly. Level the area to be treated. For the wall from the outside, use a cement mixture, and from the side of the apartment, finish with plaster.

If the crack on the wall is horizontal, the foam will not be useful to you. The void in the crack must be filled with cement mortar to support the top of the wall. Expand the crack, remove brick or concrete chips from it. Dampen the surface with water and then cement.

Tile adhesive can be used for internal crack filling. The main thing is that it should be cement-based.

Crack in plasterboard wall covering

You will need: – a painting knife; – primer; – painting net; – finishing putty; – brush.

Clean the outside wall trim near the crack. Using a painting knife with replaceable blades, correctly widen the crack by chamfering its entire length from its edges. Use a brush to brush away gypsum dust and prime the surface. When everything is dry, apply a finishing putty into the prepared cavity with a thin spatula and fasten the narrow serpyanka masking tape along the entire length. Smooth the filler over the mesh and leave to dry. Then all you have to do is sand the surface and the wall is ready for final finishing.

Before carrying out repair work on walls finished with plasterboard, check the strength of the structure to which it is attached. If the lathing is wobbling, the entire wall must be redone again, completely removing the drywall

You will need: – a wide paint net; – a spatula; – a finishing putty; – a primer.

Thin cracks in plaster usually form if the technology of its application or mixing is violated. Or this is a new house, which will shrink for several more years. These cracks are best prevented during the repair phase. Before applying the finishing putty, the wall must be reinforced.

Apply putty to the primed wall surface and attach a wide fiberglass painting net to it. Smooth the surface with a trowel. After the plaster layer is dry, sand it with fine-grained sandpaper and cover with a primer. Your wall is ready for painting or wallpapering.
