Covid-19: the time between the two doses is lowered to 21 days

The Ministry of Solidarity and Health announced on Tuesday, June 15 that the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines will be administered 21 days after the first injection.

” Do not hesitate ”

“You hesitate to get vaccinated in June because you will be on vacation in July? Do not hesitate. We are modifying the appointment systems to allow you to schedule your reminder between 21 and 49 days after the 1st injection “, the Minister of Health tweeted on Tuesday, June 15. This decision aligns with recent government concerns. Indeed, some French people fear to be vaccinated at the approach of the holidays. Reducing the delay allows “Not to slow down access to the first dose because of the holidays”, indicates the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. Until now, the time between doses of these messenger RNA vaccines has been between 35 and 49 days.

Vaccination intentions at the highest

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in January, “We had only 50% of French people who intended to be vaccinated, with fears relating especially to messenger RNA vaccines, primarily Pfizer”, explains Olivier Véran to the National Assembly. “Today, we have 80% of French people who want to be vaccinated, which makes France one of the top countries in the rankings and messenger RNA vaccines, in particular Pfizer, have allayed all fears”, he added.

The Minister of Health also indicated that France would receive “ lots of vaccine in June ”. This is a total of 23 million doses (Pfizer-BioNTech & Moderna). The same amount is expected to follow in July and August.
