Covid-19: should you isolate yourself when you are in contact and vaccinated?

People who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and who are in contact no longer need to isolate themselves in the event of a negative test. This was confirmed by Prime Minister Jean Castex at 13 p.m. on TF1 this Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

Vaccinated people and contact cases are no longer affected by isolation

Until now, people identified as a Covid contact case had to take a screening test and self-isolate for seven days, whether the test result is positive or negative. From today, the protocol changes since, as Prime Minister Jean Castex announced this Wednesday, July 21 at 13 p.m. on TF1, people who are both contact cases and vaccinated against Covid-19 are no longer subject to isolation in the event of a negative test.

To justify his remarks, Jean Castex thus declared: “ We rely on the advice of scientific authorities. Until then, people who had received two doses and who were in contact had to isolate themselves. The analyzes carried out on these people show that in reality, they no longer have a chance of catching this disease. So we will, as of this afternoon, – the Minister of Health will send an instruction to this effect – remove the obligation which attaches to being a contact case in this hypothesis. “. To do this, people must have a complete vaccination schedule, i.e. both doses (except for the Jansen vaccine which only requires one dose) and wait until seven days have passed after the second injection.

Isolation maintained for vaccinees who test positive

In any case, people who have or have not been vaccinated will still need to be tested if they are declared to be in contact. If the test is positive, isolation for ten days remains mandatory. As a reminder, isolation must be carried out in a place chosen by the person and only outings are authorized between 10 a.m. and noon or in case of emergency. If the rule is not respected, people who test positive for Covid-19 and isolated risk a fine of up to 1500 euros. According to the law, people undergoing isolation can be checked at home by the police between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and noon and 23 p.m. Note that this isolation measure is also valid for unvaccinated passengers arriving in France, from a country classified as “red”.
