Change in the legal situation related to COVID-19

By the decision of the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, the epidemic that started on March 20, 2020 was lifted. An epidemic threat has been in force in Poland since May 16. This means that There is still an epidemic risk in the country, but the number of infections and hospitalizations is decliningand the downward trend will continue.

As the head of the Ministry of Health said at the press conference, “this is not to end the epidemic, but to switch the red light in the signaling device, which has been on for two years, to the orange light, which indicates that there is a risk, there is a risk, but the situation is going in the right direction and the assessment of the situation is much better ».

– The epidemic is slowly moving towards the endemic – emphasized Niedzielski. – The real test of where we are with the epidemic will be September, when we expect increased transmission. Therefore, we will maintain the state of emergency at least until September – added.

From the perspective of the citizen, a change in the legal situation does not change much. The last restrictions, i.e. isolation for the infected, quarantine for housemates and travelers, and wearing protective masks in public places, were lifted earlier (at the turn of March and April). Only:

  1. the obligation to cover the nose and mouth in medical entities and pharmacies,
  2. vaccination obligation for medics,
  3. covid certificates, valid for 270 days for people vaccinated with two doses and indefinitely for those vaccinated with three doses.

Experts disagree with the minister of health

According to doctors, the decision of the minister of health is premature. Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, a pediatrician and expert of the Supreme Medical Council on combating COVID-19, believes that it is “a form of escape from conclusions after two years of a pandemic”. – The media ceased to be interested in the subject of a dozen or so sick people. (…) it was about stopping talking about the virus, not defeating the virus – added.

In turn, Dr. Michał Sutkowski, president of Warsaw Family Physicians, said in an interview with Medonet that the scenarios related to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic are difficult to predict.

– A pandemic could indeed turn into an endemic – that’s what we all count on – but first, we’re not sure. If a new variant appears, we may have a new version of the pandemic. The second thing is, what is actually endemia? It means a constant number of deaths and illnesses during the season, it is only important at what level. Will we have five deaths and 200 infections or will we have 200 or even 500 deaths? This is a huge difference.

The doctor said that “we must prepare for what may, but does not have to, also appear in Poland in autumn”. – We have five months ahead of us that can prepare us for this. In addition to the information that from May 16 there will be no more epidemic, I count and expect as a doctor, citizen, person involved in the fight against the epidemic, that this will be accompanied by a stronger emphasis in vaccinations, so as not to fall into hura-optimism. (…) If you say: “no more epidemics”, you have to say out loud that you should get vaccinated. I need it here – he pointed out.

Let us remind you that 19 percent of people vaccinated against COVID-59,4 in Poland are now. of the population, and the booster was adopted by 31,6 percent. people.
