The epidemiological situation in Europe is getting worse by the day. Many countries are not able to master the fourth wave, what is even worse – in western Europe they are already dealing with the fifth. Other countries introduce new restrictions, lockdowns and states of emergency. It is dramatically bad with our southern neighbors – Slovakia.

Coronavirus. Slovakia – state of emergency and lockdown for 14 days

With almost 5,5 million inhabitants, Slovakia is experiencing record numbers of infections and deaths, counted from the beginning of the pandemic. On Wednesday and Thursday there were over 10. new COVID-19 cases, the average daily number of deaths in the past few days has exceeded 50. According to Our World in Data data, this country’s increase in infection per population is the highest in the world.

The government on Thursday introduced a state of emergency for 90 days, under which there will be a ban on leaving the house. A lockdown was also introduced in the country for 14 days, also affecting the vaccinated people.

The ban on leaving the house does not apply to making the necessary purchases in the nearest store. It will be possible to settle matters in banks, insurance companies and car repair shops. Shopping centers will be closed. Restaurants will be able to deliver their meals through the counters.

Remote work is recommended, but research in schools will remain stationary, however, in buildings, students will have to wear FFP2 masks. The masks are valid in public transport, taxis, and also outside, if it is impossible to keep a distance of at least 2 meters from other people.

Restrictions also apply to services in churches. Individual confession and reception of communion is possible, but the faithful will not be able to attend Mass.

At border crossings, incl. entry forms and certificates of vaccination or illness will be checked with Poland.

Coronavirus. The Czech Republic – a state of emergency

In the Czech Republic with a population of 10,6 million, the infection bars also rose to values ​​not seen even in previous coronavirus waves. On Wednesday, the Czech Ministry of Health informed about 24 thousand. 880 new cases. 108 people have died.

The introduction of the state of emergency is scheduled for Friday at 18. It means, inter alia, ban on drinking alcohol in public spaces and closing Christmas fairs. The traditional sale of Christmas trees and carps will be allowed. From 22 PM to 5 PM restaurants, cafes, pubs, discos and clubs will be closed.

Up to 1000 people who need to be vaccinated or have passed COVID-19 will be able to participate in cultural, sports and educational events. At other mass events, such as social organization celebrations, social parties or balls, from 18 p.m. on Friday, a maximum of 100 people will be able to participate.

The obligation to present one of several acceptable documents before entering a service or catering establishment was introduced earlier. This could be a covid passport confirming full vaccinations or convalescent status, or a negative coronavirus test result. Tests cannot be older than 24 hours.

There are no restrictions on travel or curfew.

Coronavirus. Germany – the Länder will decide

Germany is our next neighbor where COVID-19 indicators are record-breaking. The number of new coronavirus cases surpassed 76 on Thursday. For comparison – in the previous two waves it was a maximum of 32,5 thousand. infections

The restrictions in force in Germany vary from state to state. In some of them, people without a covid passport cannot enter restaurants, participate in mass events or gatherings. In others, a certificate is not needed – a negative coronavirus test result is instead honored. The same applies to the need to wear masks, limit contact or organize events – all this is the responsibility of the authorities of the individual federal states. Bavaria was the first to decide on such activities.

However, the new government said it would “give itself 10 days to check” that current pandemic protection measures and vaccinations are sufficient. Otherwise, it will consider introducing further measures from 9 December. However, some politicians believe that such a decision will have to be made earlier. Mandatory vaccination for all is also being considered.

The coronavirus. Austria – lockdown

Austria was the first EU country to decide to introduce a nationwide lockdown. On November 15, it applied to the unvaccinated, and a week later to the vaccinated. The situation is still bad there. Daily there were over 15 thousand. infections, the bars have been slightly dropping for several days.

Austrians cannot leave their home without a very good reason. The list of acceptable reasons for leaving the place of residence includes medical visits, shopping, and religious practices. Austria has also introduced mandatory vaccination, it will apply from February 1, 2022.

After a very high incidence of the virus was noticed among children aged 6-14 (even before the decision of the European Medicines Agency), vaccination against COVID-19 in children aged 5-11 began in Vienna. Coronavirus. France – new restrictions

In France, the fourth wave of COVID-19 peaked in August. However, after the quiet beginning of October, the infections started to rise again. The country is already experiencing the fifth wave of the coronavirus. More than 30 thousand people are reported daily. it is more than in the summer.

Therefore, the French Ministry of Health decided to introduce new restrictions.

The obligation to wear masks in all public places returns, including outdoors, if there are a large number of people there. From January 15, the Sanitary Passport will no longer be valid without a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Currently, the certificate is required in places where over 50 people will gather, i.e. in cinemas, theaters, museums, sports halls and other public places.

From November 29, the validity of negative coronavirus tests will be reduced to 24 hours, compared to the current 72 hours.

However, there are no plans to introduce a curfew or lockdown.

Coronavirus. Italy – the unvaccinated will not enter

In Italy, the situation is similar to that in France. The fifth wave of the pandemic is taking place there, with the daily number of infections (almost 14 on Thursday) than in the fourth.

The Italian government tightened the rules for applying the COVID-19 pass. From December 6, only those who are healed or vaccinated will enter bars, restaurants, discos, theaters, cinemas, sports and public events. The negative test for the virus will cease to work, so unvaccinated people will not enter these premises.

The obligation to vaccinate was also extended to non-medical personnel working in the health service, law enforcement and the military, as well as all education workers. This requirement will also apply to the third dose.

Coronavirus. Portugal – a state of natural disaster

Portugal is also dealing with the fifth wave of the coronavirus. The government announced the introduction of a natural disaster from December 1 in connection with the increasing COVID-19 epidemic.

People will be admitted to restaurants, gyms and hotels only on the basis of a covid passport, and only people who have a current negative SARS-CoV-2 test result will be admitted to bars, discos, stadiums, as well as hospitals and retirement homes.

From December, remote work will be recommended, and from the new year it will be compulsory. In the new year, schools will also switch to distance learning.

Coronavirus in Europe. What rules in other countries?

  2. Węgry – the regulations on masks have been tightened, they are obligatory not only in means of communication, but also in closed rooms, such as: shops, cinemas or museums
  3. Hiszpania – masks are obligatory in closed rooms, in communication and when it is not possible to keep a distance of 1,5 meters.
  4. Szwecja – from December 1, a covid pass will apply at the entrance to the premises or to events
  5. Dania – the covid pass is already in force
  6. Finland – in the most endangered regions, the sale of alcohol ends at 17 p.m., later it is possible only after presenting a covid pass
  7. Norwegia – the requirement for certificates is at the discretion of municipalities, it depends on the epidemic situation
  8. Irlandia – covid certificates are valid at the entrance to nightclubs, pubs, restaurants, eateries, cinemas and theaters. The premises have shortened opening hours
  9. Grecja —Unvaccinated people are prohibited from entering cinemas, museums or gyms, even after presenting a negative test result
  10. Chorwacja – when entering offices and public institutions, you must show a covid certificate or a negative test result, masks are required in crowded public places
  11. The Netherlands —The obligation to keep a distance of 1,5 meters in public places has been introduced, restaurants require a covid passport, premises are closed earlier
  12. Iceland – limits for places in shops and sports centers have been introduced, gastronomic establishments are closed at 22.00 p.m., when you cannot keep your distance, you have to wear masks
  13. Belgia – masks are valid indoors and outdoors, if the number of people participating in the events exceeds 100.
  14. Litwa – covid certificates (after vaccination or after illness) are required at the entrance to restaurants, cafes, cultural institutions and events. A negative test result also works
  15. Łotwa – On November 15, the hard lockdown was lifted, now people without a certificate are not allowed to participate in larger gatherings, enter large stores, and have limited stationary services
  16. Rumunia – covid passports apply
  17. England – there are no orders, only recommendations, such as “Covid passports may be required in some places”
