The COVID-19 epidemic in Poland is making itself felt again

In Poland, there is more and more talk about the beginning of the sixth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic. On July 5, for the first time since April, the daily number of coronavirus infections exceeded a thousand. What’s more, the disease statistics are based on the results of tests performed only in a hospital or primary health care – because only these go to the official register. Dr. Franciszek Rakowski from the Center for Mathematical and Computational Modeling at the University of Warsaw spoke about the real number of infections in Gazeta.pl. —With a thousand infections, we can speak of 18-20 thousand. real cases – assessed the scientist.

Meanwhile, from April 1, you can no longer sign up for a free COVID-19 test. It can only be performed on the recommendation of a doctor, tests are also available in hospitals (more about the changes in testing introduced this spring). So no one knows how many infections are detected beyond these points, for example in homes, where patients – less often than before, but still – test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, without confirming a possible positive result from a doctor.

Don’t give up on testing! Whenever you suspect a coronavirus infection, take a COVID-19 Rapid Test – an antigenic self-monitoring test. You can buy it on Medonet Market at a promotional price.

In addition to the increasing number of infections, the virus reproduction rate (R index) is also worrying. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health, it was 1,3 at the end of June. It means the epidemic is growing again.

Minister Niedzielski for a change in the monitoring of the epidemic

Due to the growing number of infections, PAP asked the Ministry of Health about preparations for the expected wave. The Ministry of Health said that it is not currently working on changing the regulations, but is monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis. Still, there is a question of returning to mass testing and, in general, recommendations to fight the next wave of the pandemic. Minister Niedzielski referred to this in Polsat News.

“First of all, we need to rethink the way of monitoring the epidemic in a situation where part of the society is already vaccinated and part of the society has fallen ill” – said Adam Niedzielski in the “Graffiti” program.

The minister explained that the burden of monitoring is definitely shifting from the daily number of coronavirus cases to the situation in hospitals. “It is now a parameter that will be used to make decisions and it will depend on it what type of measures we will use” – emphasized Niedzielski.

When will we return to mass testing? Health Minister explains

«If, for example, the question is whether we are going back to mass testing, then Until we have a certain threshold of occupancy in hospitals related to covid, we will not go back to that»- said Adam Niedzielski directly, adding:« For now, we are working on about 5 people. hospitalization ». The current number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 is approximately 400 patients. “So we are still very far from that threshold” noted the head of the Ministry of Health.

«Our health care system has over-trained procedures, the minister continued, so if the number of hospitalizations oscillates around the threshold we consider a critical threshold, we will restore mass testing, possibly increasing the number of beds, and the voivodes are also prepared to, e.g. restart temporary hospitals »- informed the head of the Ministry of Health.

  1. Now you can test yourself in your own home. Order the SARS-COV-2 swab antigen test for self-testing.

The minister also referred to a possible return to masks in public transport. «These plans are ready, waiting for a decision and possible launch. But I would also like to reassure everyone that despite the increases that we have been observing in recent days, because today we also have exceeded the limit of a thousand new cases (1068), so far these are not the ranges that trigger crisis management procedures »- assured Niedzielski.
