Breathing problems, brain fog, and persistent loss of taste are just some of the long-term effects seen in coronavirus patients. Now experts warn COVID-19 could make erection difficult

  1. To the man’s stress that the virus is deadly, there is also that of problems with erection: will it never go away and completely destroy the relationship in the relationship?
  2. Italian studies found men with erectile dysfunction may be more prone to COVID-19 pneumonia
  3. Experts advise: the best way to prevent the effects of the coronavirus is to avoid becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2

Experts in Italy and the USA drew attention to the problem. They warn of another potential effect of COVID-19 – erectile dysfunction. The American doctor, Dr. Dena Grayson, an infectious diseases specialist, spoke about it in an interview with the American television station NBC

Grayson says there are legitimate concerns that the coronavirus may seriously impair men’s ability to have sexual intercourse even long after recovery.

– Erectile dysfunction is related to the vascular system – he explains.

The problem is serious

What is the relationship? Simply put, an erection is the effect of blood flowing into the cavernous bodies of the penis. This is what causes the penis to stiffen and its blood supply to increase. It should be emphasized that not only the vascular system is responsible for causing an erection, but also the nervous and endocrine systems.

Erectile dysfunction is a huge problem for many men, because the stress that the virus is deadly is also added to the fact that erection problems will never stop, completely destroying relationships in a relationship – adds Grayson.

The problem is all the more serious as patients, even before the COVID-19 epidemic, visit the urologist too late or not at all to diagnose and treat their male ailments.

They are reluctant to talk about the problem, and it is worth remembering that its cause may be various diseases: diabetes, atherosclerosis, smoking, taking antidepressants, neuroleptics and antihypertensive drugs.

Erectile dysfunction is an excellent biomarker of overall health

Therefore, according to prof. Emmanuele Jannini, endocrinologist and sexologist at Rome’s Tor Vergata University, erectile dysfunction is “an excellent biomarker of overall physical and mental health”.

Jannini, the lead author of the study, further stated that the effects of COVID-19 on the deterioration of mental and physical health and erectile dysfunction are obvious and not surprising. But research in Italy has shown that erectile dysfunction has additional other, even wider-reaching consequences.

People infected with the coronavirus who previously suffered from erectile dysfunction may be more susceptible to COVID-19 pneumonia, says Jannini.

This is because pneumonia causes the same comorbidities that occur with erectile dysfunction: respiratory diseases, inflammation, hormonal problems, depression.

Experts say the best way to prevent the long-term effects of COVID-19 is to avoid situations where you may become infected with the coronavirus in the first place.

The editorial board recommends:

  1. Seven chronic diseases that increase the risk of hospitalization of seniors with COVID-19
  2. Factors that Increase Your Risk of Severe COVID-19
  3. Muscle pain during COVID-19. «He was so strong I couldn’t touch myself»
