Antigen test for SARS-COV-2 to be done at home
The Lidl discount chain was the first to offer antigen tests for SARS-COV-2 infection. The product allows the detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus antigen in swabs from the front part of the nose. The test produced by Boson Biotech is one of a dozen approved for use by the EU Health Security Committee.
As the manufacturer informs: «The test is intended for self-control and can be performed at home. The SARS-COV-2 antigen test can be performed regardless of whether the person performing the test has symptoms of an infection or not. – It is a very good idea, provided that these tests are credible. Sensitivity and specificity are two parameters related to the reliability of the tests. You need to know the method by which these parameters were assessed. That is, the size of the group on which this test was tested. The greater the percentage of people tested, the higher the reliability of the parameters describing the test. Lidl antigen test – how to do it?
As Fiałek emphasizes, the advantage of such a test is the ease of carrying out the test.
– Taking a smear is really easy and you don’t need to be a doctor to do it yourself. This is really an overstated task. You just have to do it right, which means you actually have to put a swab into the back wall of the nasopharynx, and not just wave at the nasal vestibule. If the swab is inserted too shallow, the result will not be reliable, no matter how reliable the test is, says the doctor.

Fiałek emphasizes that the test should be carried out as soon as possible after symptoms of coronavirus infection appear.
