Countries where children cannot be punished
Maybe you can shake your finger. But even to touch with a finger – no, no.
It is no longer possible to raise children with carrots and sticks. Is that gingerbread. A complete ban on physical punishment began in late June in Japan. The same rules apply in another 53 countries around the world. The law does not yet apply to Russia, although no one will pat the head on the head for cruel treatment of a child in our country, and may involve custody.
So back to Japan. Amendments to the child protection law began to be discussed after the terrible story of a ten-year-old girl Mia Kurihara: the girl was found dead at her home. Prior to that, the child had complained about the abuse of his parents, but the authorities did not react to her statements. When they realized it, it was too late.
Now the Japanese government is going to ban not only physical punishment, but also the moral humiliation of children. But this is only in the plans. In the meantime, the ban on punishment does not even provide for any specific sanctions for violating parents. It’s just that child protection centers will now be able to intervene in the situation and give recommendations on how to behave with a naughty child.
By the way, Japanese children are considered almost the most capricious in the world. It is in the tradition of the country to bring up children without strict prohibitions. They are taught to obey the rules only at school, that is, very late.
Where children cannot be punished
It is strictly forbidden to touch a child even with a finger in many countries of Europe and Latin America. If suddenly parents decide to educate their child with a belt in Sweden, Austria, Australia, Holland, Germany, Spain, they can be prosecuted. IN Israel can also be imprisoned even for slapping a hooligan child on the head.
В Finland no one stands on ceremony with their parents: the child, almost, is removed from the family, and the mother and father themselves are put on trial. Moreover, the child does not even have to complain about the parents. If the teacher notices bruises or neighbors hear you yell at the children, wait for the guardianship officials.
In France even the one who has not notified the guardianship authorities about the facts of child abuse runs the risk of going to court. For serious beating of a child, French parents face up to ten years in prison and, of course, deprivation of parental rights. For minor injury – temporary removal of the child from the family.
But in UKFor example, you can spank children. If only there were no traces of such slaps left. If the abrasion or bruise still remains, the parents face criminal liability. IN Scotland allow physical punishment, but only with an open palm. As in Canada – there must not be used any additional items such as a belt. And if the child is over 12 years old, then everything, beating is illegal.
В USA spanking is also perfectly legal. But also as long as they cannot be characterized as beatings. Bruises and abrasions may well qualify.
And in a prosperous Singapore children can only be beaten at school – for teachers. Parents are also not forbidden, but such a practice is condemned in a decent society.
Well, in the Middle East and Asian countries, you can beat children. Nobody will judge.
Doctor’s comment
“A slap or a slap on the head not only causes physical harm to the child, but also psychological damage,” says the pediatrician. Olga Kochanova… “Children become aggressive, they believe that many problems can be solved only through violence.”
Opinion of the psychologist
There is no unequivocal opinion whether it is possible to beat a child. If you asked me personally, and I raised two sons, now one is 23, the other is 25, I would say categorically “no”. I believe that you should always be able to negotiate.
There is always a debate about which hurts more: the word or physical punishment. Perhaps it depends on the person himself. A very interesting experiment was carried out in America, where for a long time they watched children who are baptized on the fortieth day after birth. Some of the children, after dipping into the baptismal font, curled up into the embryo position, and some were immersed in the water in a column. Then these kids were watched. From those who stayed upright, leaders grew up, and those who folded up – led. Children are already born with certain inclinations, and everyone is so different that parents need to look for a middle ground in upbringing.
I am very impressed by the view of the upbringing of the famous teacher Shalva Amonashvili. “In raising children, you need to adhere to the thought:“ Thank you, Lord, for entrusting me with raising your child. I am a wonderful parent, I have a wonderful child who was given by God. This is not my property, the universal essence is entrusted to me. And he came into this world to accomplish what was prescribed for him, and not in order to somehow brighten up my old age. “
Important!
In fact, it is forbidden to flog with a belt or weigh the head on the head in Russia. Our country has adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The international document deals with the rights of children. There is also a Declaration of the Rights of the Child. There are articles in the Criminal Code of our state for cruel treatment of minors. But there is no clear definition of what constitutes violence. So acts are interpreted at the discretion of investigators and judges.
