For the treatment of cough during pregnancy, plants, essential oils, honey, milk and spices are actively used. Always read the instructions carefully, some plants are contraindicated in the first or subsequent trimesters.
Gentle Cough Relief Methods:
- Inhalation with herbal decoctions and essential oils. An effective and safe way to relieve throat and lung problems. Industrial inhalers have proven themselves well, but steam baths with broths or with the usual potatoes in their uniforms are no less useful.
- Gargle with warm broth. In the first trimester, you can use chamomile, St. John’s wort, calendula, eucalyptus, yarrow. The procedure is performed every 2 hours. The broth can be brewed once a day.
- Drinking plenty of warm drinks will dilute the phlegm and speed up its waste. Any liquid will work, but among the traditional medicinal drinks, milk with honey and butter is especially useful for relieving coughs. It not only softens the throat, but also gently warms up, increases immunity.
You can drink expectorant and antitussive preparations only after the recommendation of a doctor.
If the cough persists within 5 days, you should see a doctor. Perhaps this is a symptom of a disease that is more serious than a cold. In this case, the woman is prescribed an examination – digital fluorography or tomography.
Signs for which you need to seek help:
- excruciating dry cough;
- viscous sputum;
- temperature;
- breathing pain, shortness of breath;
- vomiting after a coughing fit.
It is important to identify and eliminate the cause of this condition as soon as possible. The doctor will prescribe adequate treatment after diagnosis.
A cough in late pregnancy requires as much attention as it does in the first and second trimesters. It can provoke hypoxia in the baby and cause premature birth. It should be treated regardless of the period of pregnancy.
