Cough during pregnancy: dry, severe
The immunity of a woman during pregnancy experiences additional stress, and the range of medications that can be used is significantly narrowed. Coughing during pregnancy can be uncomfortable, so you need to take your condition seriously.
Is a cough dangerous for expectant mothers?
A cough in itself is not a disease, but only a symptom that can signal a wide variety of diseases. The doctor should identify the cause of the cough – it is to him that the expectant mother should contact if she is worried about a cough. Self-medication is dangerous: infectious diseases that cause coughing, if not treated promptly, can cause significant harm to the health of the unborn baby.
The cough is not as harmless as it might seem. Frequent and severe coughing during pregnancy can cause:
uterine bleeding
hypertonicity of the uterus,
circulatory disorders in the placenta and fetal hypoxia.
The risk is especially high for those women who are diagnosed with previa or low adhesion of the placenta.
How to eliminate a cough during pregnancy?
The treatment of the expectant mother should take place under the strict supervision of a doctor. Taking many cough medications uncontrolled is dangerous, especially during the first 12-14 weeks of pregnancy. As a rule, doctors recommend to abandon synthetic medicines and opt for herbal cough remedies or traditional recipes.
A dry cough during pregnancy will help to cure agents that thin phlegm and facilitate its evacuation from the bronchi:
warm milk with a spoonful of honey,
decoctions of linden blossom, sage, chamomile. Herbs are brewed at the rate of 1 tsp. in a glass of water, you need to drink the infusion warm,
plentiful warm drink: fruit drinks, compotes, light herbal teas,
gargling with a soda solution or chamomile decoction.
With a wet cough, the following will help speed up recovery:
decoctions of yarrow and sequential in the form of drinking or inhalation,
plant-based syrups: bronchicum, gedelix, marshmallow root syrup. Strictly adhere to the recommended dosage.
Under strict ban:
self-medication and the use of any methods of treatment and drugs without consulting a doctor;
physiotherapy procedures – warming up, electrotherapy, banks, mustard plasters;
hot foot baths.
Take a closer look at your health and the health of your baby: at the first symptoms of cough, see your doctor and do not postpone the treatment prescribed by him.
