Cotoneaster brilliant: planting a hedge

Description of the brilliant cotoneaster

Planting a brilliant cotoneaster

You can plant a bush in late autumn or early spring. Choose an area for it in the sun or partial shade. The main thing is that it is well protected from the wind and the groundwater is deep.

You need to plant a cotoneaster according to the following scheme:

  1. Dig a hole 70 cm deep.Place a 20 cm thick drainage layer on the bottom.
  2. Place the seedling in the hole.
  3. Mix sand, turf and compost in a 2: 2: 1 ratio. Fill the seedling hole with this fertile mixture. Tamp each layer of earth well.
  4. Water the seedling.
  5. Apply an 8 cm layer of peat mulch.

If you are planting multiple bushes, keep at least 50 cm between them. To create a hedge, reduce the distance to 30 cm.

Further care is simple. It consists in watering, loosening the soil, removing weeds, fertilizing and pruning. If the summer is rainy, then there is no need to water the cotoneaster. In dry years, water it 2-3 times per season. Pour out a bucket of water at a time. Perform sanitary pruning in early spring before the buds awaken. Also fertilize the bush with urea in early spring. Before flowering, feed the bush with potassium sulfate and granulated superphosphate. You can apply chicken manure or cow dung a couple of times per season.

The brilliant cotoneaster is easy to plant and grow. If you follow all the tips described, you will grow beautiful bushes, which will be hung with unusual black berries until frost.
