Cosmetic bag for a teenager

So that the endless struggle with acne and complexes about appearance does not become the main memory of youth, read this article. And share it with your younger relatives and friends.

Features of the skin of adolescents

“Adolescence is characterized by hormonal changes in the body, during this period the work of the sebaceous glands intensifies,” explains Alexander Prokofiev, an expert at La Roche-Posay. “The result can be skin problems and a tendency to acne.”

Teenagers are often ashamed of acne, avoid communication with peers, begin to withdraw into themselves. A doctor and, of course, competent care will help to solve problems.

Another problem that may bother teenagers is allergic reactions or signs of atopic dermatitis.

“Of course, with such manifestations, one must be under the supervision of a dermatologist in order to carry out medical treatment in a timely manner, if necessary,” warns Alexander Prokofiev. “Emollients are used as basic care — products that moisturize the skin and restore its hydrolipidic protective layer.”

How to take care of your skin as a teenager

The question that worries all parents is when to select funds for systemic care for a teenager. Vichy expert Ekaterina Turubara answers it like this: “Cosmetologists believe that it is worth starting to care for the skin from the age of 14 with the help of moisturizers. In general, a teenager’s cosmetic “diet” is relatively poor: he will need a cleanser in the form of a gel or foam, basic moisturizing care (as a rule, at this age no one divides products into day and night), as well as a sunscreen.

“Teenagers need to choose cosmetics that gently cleanse the skin without degreasing or overdrying it. Products should not contain oils, as they can clog pores and promote the formation of comedones, ”explains Garnier dermatologist Marina Kamanina.

Just in case: by law, cosmetic products are intended for people over the age of 14 (this does not include children’s products).

Normal skin care for teenagers

As at any age, you need to draw up a care regimen based on skin type and existing problems. With normal skin without rashes and a tendency to acne, care may look like this.

Purification

It is better to choose soft cleansers. At the same time, the base should foam well enough: young people rarely understand sulfate-free products and do not understand whey and two-phase textures. A teenager can easily “under-wash” such a product and eventually get irritation, and he will try to remove the noticeable foam completely.

Ingredients with a calming effect are welcome (calendula extract, allantoin, bisabolol). But acids with normal skin are not particularly needed.

humidification

It is better to choose a moisturizer with a light texture and a composition that increases the barrier-protective forces of the skin. The epidermis is fully formed by the age of 11-12, but this process is individual, and it is important to maintain the normal insulating function of the skin. The composition of the product may include glycerin, hyaluronic acid or chitosan, as well as ceramides and light oils (for example, grape seed). Too nutritious texture is not required.

You definitely shouldn’t put baby cream on a teenager’s face. The formulation based on lanolin and silicones is designed to isolate dry skin from diaper tissue, and not to care for sebaceous facial skin.

Problem skin care for teenagers

Those who have problematic skin should pay special attention to thorough cleansing, as well as matting and acne prevention.

Purification

According to Ekaterina Turubara, in addition to the acid-based cleansing gel, the care program should include a tonic lotion to restore skin pH. Its composition usually includes a small percentage of alcohol, as well as acids, disinfectants and soothing components.

As for the day care product, it should have a light texture and be non-comedogenic. In the composition look for:

  • acids: salicylic, glycolic or fruit complex;

  • matting and sebum-regulating additives, for example, zinc and copper salts;

  • disinfectant and anti-inflammatory ingredients.

“When contacting a doctor, adolescents with acne may be prescribed medications based on adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, and antibiotics,” warns Ekaterina Turubara. “It is important that the cream used at the time of application of the drug optimally moisturizes the skin: it should not contain oils, but may include hyaluronic acid, glycerin, algae and aloe extracts, as well as soothing ingredients – thermal water, allantoin, madecassoside.”

“To wash problematic skin, choose gels that can eliminate impurities, cleanse pores, and remove excess sebum,” says Alexander Prokofiev.

With problematic skin, masks based on white clay with the addition of plant extracts and acids will not interfere. But it is better not to use popular film masks in the presence of pustules.

Photoprotection

Dermatologists insist: in case of a skin problem, it is important to carefully protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation and not to advise a teenager to expose his face to the sun in order to “dry acne”. After exposure to sunbathing, the skin really looks better, but after a while, as soon as the hyperkeratosis caused by ultraviolet disappears, an exacerbation occurs.
Sunscreen should be adapted to problematic skin and have a factor of at least SPF 30.
