When installing a gas water heater, it is necessary to consider the connection to the chimney. The removal of combustion products is an important factor in the operation of equipment. A pipe is used as a connecting element between the column pipe and the chimney. Don’t know what material to choose for the hood? Perhaps a corrugation for a gas column is suitable for you.
Types of exhaust pipes
For the normal operation of the boiler or gas column, the organization of the chimney is required. In private houses, a solid mine of brick and concrete is most often laid. If there is none in the apartment building, then a hole is made in the wall where the outlet pipe is connected.
A pipe made of the following materials serves as a connecting element between the column and the chimney outlet:
- Steel galvanized. Heat-resistant and reliable due to additional enamel coating. The disadvantage of the design is the rapid accumulation of condensate due to the difference in temperatures outside and inside. This can be avoided by warming;
- Enameled. The smooth surface of the product allows you to effectively remove smoke, reduce noise and reduce the accumulation of soot;
- Corrugated pipe for gas. Flexible design eliminates the need for additional extensions and connections. Inexpensive and mobile material.
The corrugation body is a cylinder, the elements are fastened with a lock seam. The wire plays the role of a reinforcing element, gives the product flexibility and elasticity.
Corrugated pipe is of two types:
- stainless steel. This is the most efficient option for connecting to a column. Stainless steel construction withstands high temperatures up to 900 degrees, as well as acid environments. Thickness: 0,12-1mm. The pipe does not lose its integrity when bending in any direction, therefore it allows you to connect without additional adapters;
- Aluminum. Such materials are not prohibited for connection to gas equipment. However, as practice shows, aluminum does not withstand temperatures above 500 degrees. If soot will burn, then the pipe will burn out, and the products of combustion will enter the room.
For installation, it is allowed to use only certified heat-resistant corrugation permitted by Rostekhnadzor.
What to consider when choosing a chimney pipe:
- Number of outlets combustion products;
- The power of technology;
- Temperature difference between internal heating and external environment;
- installation height.
Features of choice
When buying, you need to consider not only the length and diameter of the nozzle, but also the model of the column. Standard channels are available in diameters of 110-130 cm. To accurately determine the size of the structure, go to the store with a diagram where measurements are indicated from the body of the appliance to the chimney opening.
According to SNiP, pipes for the boiler and column must meet the following requirements:
- SP 60.13330.2012 – minimum roughness, class B tightness, incombustibility;
- SP 42-101-2003 – you can use galvanized, roofing steel, corrugation;
- Corrosion resistance. Smooth designs in this regard are more durable. They do not accumulate moisture and pollution;
- Compliance with fire safety requirements;
- The permissible length of the branch is 3 meters. Temperature range from 200 to 350 degrees, depending on the temperature of the discharged products;
- It is forbidden to lay the pipeline through residential premises;
- It is permissible to make up to three turns of the pipe during installation. It is important that there is no sagging;
- Installation is carried out at a distance of 5 cm from the wall of non-combustible materials. For slow-burning – 25 cm.

Installation principles
The installation procedure is simple. After placing and fixing the body of the device on the wall, a corrugation is put on the outlet pipe (it is located on top). The connection is secured with a clamp. To reduce the noise level, the structure is stretched as much as possible. The free end is inserted into the chimney opening and fixed.
It is important to evenly distribute the corrugation to avoid sagging. It delays the removal of carbon monoxide.
Make sure that the pipe does not come into contact with electrical wiring and other communications. Be sure to use thermal insulation to lead the outlet to the street in order to avoid the accumulation of condensate.
The operations described above are suitable for open combustion chamber appliances when the house has a chimney. If it is not there, then a hole is made in the wall and a coaxial outlet is mounted. This is typical for devices with a closed chamber.
As you can see, the choice and installation of the outlet channel must be approached responsibly. Your safety and the efficiency of the equipment depends on this. Perhaps it is better to entrust the arrangement to professionals, then you do not have to worry about the quality of the work done.
