Corrective education for children with mental retardation, mental retardation
Babies who are lagging behind in development need increased attention. Proper education of children with mental retardation allows them to catch up with their peers. The sooner a violation is detected and corrective work is started, the better.
Delayed development of children occurs as a result of various factors – hypoxia during pregnancy, birth trauma or emotional stress. ZPR is manifested in the fact that the child’s motor skills and speech are incorrectly formed. When a child under one year old sits down at the wrong time, turns over, holds his head, this signals that there is a delay in development.
Teaching children with mental retardation at preschool age allows them to catch up with their peers
From 6 months old, the child should actively babble. The lack of babbling and the first words at 1 year suggests that development is delayed. If developmental delay does not have a coarse organic basis, this condition is well corrected. But the preparation of a child with mental retardation for school requires a special approach, it is necessary to create favorable conditions for the development and education at home.
Correctional education of children with mental retardation
By the beginning of their studies in grade 1, children with mental retardation have undeveloped intellectual and volitional spheres. It is difficult for them to solve the tasks set by adults, to generalize, compare and analyze. But unlike children with oligophrenia, they are able to perform similar tasks according to the proposed model with the help of a teacher. Children successfully master complex educational material with the correct pedagogical approach.
An important period in school education is preparatory. In correctional classes, children are taught literacy, the development of thinking, the formation of activity during the assimilation of the material.
It is better to start teaching children with mental retardation in preschool educational institutions. For this, there are groups where children are healed and creatively developed, defectologists and speech therapists conduct corrective training, involving parents. Medication therapy is an integral part of care.
Often, after working properly with preschool children, they go to a regular school. According to special indications of specialists, the baby can be sent to a type VII correctional school – a boarding school for children with learning difficulties. But without the consent of the parents, no one will take the child to such an institution.
In some general education schools, correctional classes have been created in which children with mental retardation are taught. After leaving school, they choose a suitable option for further education – to go to college, college or university.
Parents of a toddler who has been diagnosed with CRD should not despair. If there are no severe organic brain lesions, the child will grow up normal with proper education and treatment.
